Cowon J3 - Personal User EQ Settings
Feb 19, 2013 at 5:10 AM Post #211 of 221
I find that it's largely dependent on the recording and genre; I almost always use 'Normal,' Headphone 1,' or 'Wide.' Normal and Wide are fairly flat settings while Headphone 1 has some bass and treble boost. I used to play around with the eq, but I am pretty happy with the three I mentioned. My music is all of very high quality (I search out the best mastered albums by musicians I like, as well as vinyl rips), so there's not a lot of tweaking needed to be honest. My iems are VSonic GR07 MK1 which are fairly neutral, fwiw.

For us poorer folk who have good taste in headphones but cannot fork out $500 for a fancy pair of Shure IEMs, the Klipsch Image S4s are a great option. And since there doesn't seem to be any EQ settings on this thread for the S4s, I'll share mine.

EQ Option 1
80Hz - Wide - +5 dB
500Hz - Normal - +3 dB
1.4kHz - Normal - +1 dB
4.1kHz - Wide - +4 dB
13kHz - Narrow - +9 dB

BBE - 9
M3B - 7
3D - Off
MPE - On
SE - 1
Reverb - Off

EQ Option 2

80Hz - Wide - 6 dB
500Hz - Wide - 2 dB
1.4kHz - Narrow - 1 dB
4.1kHz - Wide - 5 dB
13kHz - Normal - 6 dB

BBE - 8
M3B - 6
3D - Off
MPE - On
SE - Off
Reverb - Off

These are both bass-heavy EQs. Feel free to tweak them if you'd like. They still handle the highs well, though. I'm listening to Maroon 5 right now, and the highs haven't sounded harsh at all.

Also, why is it that many on this thread like their dB levels down between 0 and 4, and their BBE & M3B either low or comlpetely off? With my S4s, those settings sound like trash...

I'm curious what you would think of the following settings for the S4's.  I was always curious about the opinion of how setting for the Brainwavz M2's would translate.  However, in the end, of course it's still opinion.  But hey, I think it's worth a shot.

About a week ago, I tried both of these, not extensively, but I found the "casual listening" setting to be pretty good. I didn't like the other as much, though...

Oh, well ok.  Interesting.  Well yeah, I could tell that your settings are even more v-shaped than what I have as the "casual listening" settings.  Alright then, good to know.

At least that means they're somewhat fitting.  I guess I won't know for sure how similar these two pairs of IEMs are until I hear them for myself of course...  Thanks for the feedback!

Good afternoon everyone.

Any idea what would be the best settings for a fidelio M1 ? I listen to almost everything and for the moment I let everyhting to neutral, with a little bit of BBE.
