*Confirmed* Grado PS1000 is coming!

Here's my question and comment for those who would spend this much on phones...Aren't we getting in to electrostat territory here? And doesn't that complicate things as far as a decision and make you wonder how Grado and Senn are justifying these $1400-$1700 prices?

Given current economic climate in UK, and local grado prices, RS1 £650-700, GS1k £875-1000, I am guessing the PS1000 will be around £1.4-1.5k, maybe more if the distributor is greedy. This is of course into high end book shelf speaker territory....

In the UK, Senn is £1k and Ed.9 is £1.1k. Stax signiture set is about £1.2k, 007 mk2 (headphone) is £1.5k. As you can see, Senn is actually not too bad in comparison in UK.

Probably very good. I must say I am more interested in these than in the HD800.
I can't afford to be interested in both....

I am too. I'm considering cancelling HD800 pre-order and going for these. When are they shipping?

@madman

not for me, as i am settled on my non electrostat amp, as it integrates so well with my existing setup and enables it all to interlink, i totally see your point but just for me, i can afford (barely) these new offerings, but couldnt afford the whole package required to drive stats ie, (stat phones and stat amp!)

For me personally, not in the slightest.

Have you seen the price of electrostatic amps lately? Also, I can't plug them in to my sound card either.

Well 'stat territory starts much lower, but the O2, HE60, Jade, etc. are around there, yes. Of course, you then need to tack on the cost of an amp (and source) that will tend to be more expensive than their dynamic brethren, but that's just generally speaking.

With respect to the HD 800, I have yet to see this confirmed, but it does appear from the reviews and some other comments that Senn has attempted to take some of the best characteristics of 'stats and incorporate them into a dynamic phone. I think that makes the decision pretty easy for someone who already has a kickass dynamic rig.

With respect to the Grado, while I like Grados, I don't understand how the GS1K fetches the price it does, so I am not sure how this new offering will fare. Of course, it could sound like the cat's pajamas in which case people that prefer the slam of a Grado over the mids of a 'stat will be very happy.

Wow! Just when I thought that HD800 was expensive.

PS1000 must weigh like hell. PS1 was already very heavy and not very comfortable. Though PS1 is the best sounding Grado out there. If PS1000 takes them closer to GS1000 sound then it'll be a step in a wrong direction (IMO).

Must borrow some of the improved models when they arrive at our local dealer.

It has been reviewed by Zanth and quite thoroughly I might add. Check first post for updates.

Well from Zanth's (Jason) description on the Grado Labs website, PS1000 seems to be a perfect all-rounder ever made. Will have to wait and see how they go head to head with HD 800s.

If the new GS-1000i gets new drivers I would be very interested to get a comparative review with PS-1000. Maybe the difference won't be as big as Zanth found with current GS-1000 on his review (PS-1000 = more forward mids and less agressive highs).

Well I wouldn't own an O2, HE60 system if they were $500 these days after my GS1000 system.

Here is what I really think about them...

Also addresses a way to help the mid-range issue with the GS1000's.

Does anyone know the weight of these new phones?
