I'm thinking of getting denon d1100 or the denon d2000. I have the hfi-780 and they sound nice. I just need something more comfortable with equal or better mids. If anyone tried both the 1100 and the 780 (or 2000) so I would like to ask you a few questions. I listen to techno, some rock, r&b with good vocals, pop, and very little hip hop. I generally like music that have decent amount of bass (about a little more than what the amount the 780 gives) with excellent vocals. I plan to use a fiio e11 amp and or the e5 amp with ipod touch 4th gen. Also, I read the thread of the 5000, 2000, and 1100 shootout. I just want a second opinion (especially if anyone has heard the 780).

1. I know the denon d1100 has to be Eqed to sound better.

I just want to know with eqing how clear and forward is the midrange of the 1100 in comparison to the 780s (or 2000s)?

2. What is the better deal:

A d2000 for $250 or a d1100 for $150, either will be used with a fiio e11 amp and ipod touch 4th or rockbox sansa clip+ or sony walkman s545? Also the ipod touch now has an awesome app called "Equ" which I can equalize the music on the ipod touch.

Thanks!

I don't know about the others but I found D1100's mids to be anywhere but forward. My biggest complaint about them. My $50 XB500 has more forward mids. I'm a fan of strong bass & forward mid-sound with neutral or possibly slightly veiled highs.

If I had to choose between clear mids and forward mids then I will choose clear mids. I listen to enough vocals to value the clarity of mids.
And as long as the bass is adequate then I'm good.

I'm trying to see if eqing the d1100 enough would clear the mids up to be on par or better than the 780s mids.
I'm leaning towards the d2000 though. Just want something with equal or better mids than the 780 but far more comfortable.
If I find a great deal on the d2000s then ill jump (like around $200). If anyone knows of such a deal then may you pm me.
