Closed Cans, looking...

Just out of curiosity, how do you think the momentums compare to a lot of the other headphones in terms of sound quality?

I heard the MkI's once & didn't like them. I bought the V-Moda M-100 & didn't look back. Recently I got to hear the MkII's & can't say I was overly impressed with them either, although they do fit my lugs better.

Some random notes:

- No AKG K550/551/545?
- I assume you're interested in isolation if you want closed cans.  I understand the Fostex 900 and 600 are both EXTREMELY leaky.
- If you're into used, the Denon D7000 is supposed to be amazing.

Definitely check out the ZMF lineup (modded Fostex T50RP headphones) at www.zmfheadphones.com. I personally prefer the mid-centric sound signature of Zach's lineup to the Mr Speakers lineup!

NAD VISO HP50 and Sony MDR-7520 are two more you'll want to consider. After months of researching closed cans with good isolation, I finally chose the HP50; I'm not a sophisticated listener, so considering Tyll's recommendation and the $189 price tag, I figure I can't go far wrong.

I've heard the HP50 and it just wasn't to my liking. I have DT770s now, so I'm looking to see if some of these higher end cans offer a significant upgrade.

The NADs, and PSBs are supposed to be the essentially the same, so I will add them just so others can see them in the list to try.

I had the 501s and maybe my head is too small, but I never got a good seal, and they would come off my head if I moved my head to fast. They had very tight bass, but not quite punchy enough for me. I'll add the high end AKGs to the list.

The K501's self-adjusting headband doesn't work the same way as the headband on the K55x. Granted, out of the box the K55x are a bit loose, but there's a "small head mod" for bending in the headband. That's something that totally can't be done in either direction on the self-adjusting models (they'll snap back into place, or just plain snap).

Just scroll down for the rankings. His number one pick is the Sennheiser Momentum 2nd generation.
