My main desktop headphones are discontinued ATH-AD700's.

I'm looking for a closed solution with decent sound stage. I'm too used to the 700's.

I'm currently gravitating between the Beyer DT-700 32 ohm, or the Audio-Technica ATH-A900X, leaning slightly towards the A900X. I'm probably going to end up with whichever supposedly has the better sound stage.

Would really appreciate some help. Thanks !

AKG K550 has the largest soundstage I've heard from a closed can

Yet another to consider, then. AKG K550 vs ATH-A900X, hmmmm

It would help if you wrote what sound signature you're looking for and whether you're going to use them outside or not

Reading up on the options, I think so far only the A900X would give the wide sound stage I'm looking for, but I'm not sure. I'm less interested in accurate positioning or studio monitoring sound.

Wide sound stage... good, noticeable left/right separation is what I'm looking for, as far as it's possible for closed headphones.

Well, I'm not really looking for a lot of bass. "Airy"/light sound would do well.

I would like to use them outside occasionally, but not primarily.

Haven't heard the a900x but the k550 fits that perfectly

Beyerdynamic custom one pro is great. Very airy and confortable if you put velour pads. Cable can be change, 4 signatures in one headphone, easy to drive (16ohms), light, an relatively cheap. Close to a semi-open when set on bass positions in my opinion. Not good if you like loud to be deaf volume though.

One thing you have to check is confort : do you like tight pression, or confy loosy on your head.
Beyers put very few pression on head. I can't listening from a lot of headphones due to too much acoustic pression (for closed one, pain whitout any sound playing!) or migraine.
Others prefer a very tight seal, outside the world bubble thing.
