Classifying versions of the RS1: Your Guide (Work in Progress)

Purchased recently these Vintage B. Although the drivers seem white and not pink. Last owner was the original owner and mentioned they were never replaced. Is it possible that white drivers were used towards the end of the Vintage B production? Thanks

Hi, interesting thread ! I have recently acquired some RS1 and i know they were quite old and amongst the earlier versions, Buttons on drivers, square metal rods with hard end stops not rubber but black leather headband not the brown version mentioned on very early RS1. I got curious so i emailed Grado direct with the serial number that is 231 and they got back to me within a day to tell me the year 1994 which from my investigations is when they were first introduced. maybe there is no hard and fast rule you can apply to these earlier versions, but would welcome any comments for all you guys. I can download photos if that would help,

Now upon further investigations the 231 is next to the drivers on the wood but on the same side as the drivers , there appears to no serial number on the inner rim of the wooden housing, I'm thinking the 231 is the driver matching number? Photos attached.

The 231appears barely visible in the photos but it's definitely there when viewed in situ, and no serial number on inner rims but black leather on headband? Fascinating stuff 🤔🙂

Got the definitive answer from Grado this morning, the 231 on the rim next to the driver (so when you look at the driver straight on the number is visible) IS the serial number, sent them the photos and they confirmed.
