Lets not forget colorfly C4, I am still due to a more indepth comparasion of DD socket 1 and C4 coaxial out but C4 is incredibly useful. Its resampling chip seems to improve soundstage.

Tough question to answer for sure, VentureCraft Go-DAP DD Socket 1 and CLAS -dB could be hard to beat for their coaxial outputs. Of course they're more like DDC and the SQ would depend on the source feeding them via USB.

Then we could also get this dock for HM901 and compare its coaxial output with the ones mentioned above

I'd expect someone in China offering mod for the latest QLS QA360 soon and its coaxial output could be one of the best, previous ones such as QA550 and QA660 were already modified with better SQ

Marantz PMD-761 is transportable at best but it's hard to tell the SQ of its coaxial output until we try it

My money is on RME HDSPe MADI FX for the very best coaxial output at home without costing an arm and a leg, just wait for next 15% off sale and grab one from Rakuten

I don't see why I would want one of those portable devices with their own DAC and amp port, which I'll never use with my Hugo, just for their player/memory/digital output.  They are spendy for what your using them for.  Better to just use a tablet with a full operating system like Surface Pro 2 or a cheaper Asus, both have a usb port and windows 8.1.  Can use JRiver for your player.  With the right bag, which your going to need anyways, your portable and you have a tablet for browsing/work station.  Just my 2 cents.

As someone said earlier, concerning portable ie devices, Sounds like a solution for creating more problems.
