got furutech fa220 bulk cable interconnect with fp162 rca plugs at Hugo end and fp101 rca plugs at amp end. fp162 though cheapest plug in furutech but fit perfectly in Hugo. this interconnect is very very transparent and taken out even the last bit of edginess from treble without being dull or overly warm and great improvement chord company chameleon interconnect . I also replaced QED xtube speaker cables with furutech bulk fs15s cable and it is also a huge improvement over QED cables. sound is more timed and with greater insight without being overly warm or bright, infact the ovetall character of sound not changed much but much more refinement.

How is the black finish holding up with regular use?

the black Hugo does not have a sprayed coating finish... the aluminium pores are opened up, a dye is a applied which soaks into the pores which seals in the colour. A friend has a black one for a few months now & there are no signs of use, I'll email him later & ask him to post a photo in one of the threads, hth.

It's most likely anodized.

what's the difference between black and silver finish? is it just the color? thx

Fwiw, I chose silver instead of black.

Earlier:

1) Easier to find in the darkened interior of my pack.
2) Easier to spot in a dark room.
3) Somehow, easier to find the (ahem) insertion slots/holes.
4) Like a bit ‘rougher’... touch-wise.
5) It’s the ‘original’ colour for Hugo.

Now:

6) Looks good in the black or tan leather case.
7) Looks black in the black case (albeit with some shiny bits).
8) Still looks rather good ‘naked'.

cheers.

I just got the black hugo with its custom black hugo carry case, very smart holder. It matches my black iPhone 6 plus. Course it's the sound stage that's most impressive. Using stock stuff for now with camera USB adapter to 7 pin. Nice pairing with the 846, happy to be one of the clan.

I find the black one has a darker, more sinister tone. Sometimes it plays Sabbath Bloody Sabbath backwards, which I find especially odd given that I dont own a single Black Sabbath album.

Someone's been at the festive wine already. Merry Hugo to all :santa:

Hi m8
The Hugo can drive the hd800s pretty well, but i use the Hugo as a dac and run it 2 the hdvd800, Using senns balance cable 2 the hd800s, And it sounds fantastic. The dac in the hdvd800 is ok, but no where near as good as the Hugos dac.I would say this, if you only have the money for 1 item, then get the Hugo 1st and then when you have the funds get senn 600 amp.Hope this helps you out m8.

I see i'm not the only one who thought the Hugo sounds better than the HDVD800 with the HD800. I'm still thinking about buying an external amp, most probably the Taurus MKII if I can find a dealer who sells it.

How much better does the Chord Hugo + HDVD800 + HD800 sound over the Chord Hugo + HD800? Is it only a minor sound upgrade or a big upgrade?
