Chord Hugo TT High End DAC Amp Impressions Thread

Does anyone know how many milliwatts the Hugo TT headphone output would put out into 46ohms? The only spec I could find relating to headphone output power was this

Headphone output: 110dB SPL into a 300ohm headphone load

Is the headphone output more powerful than the Mojos?

I'm just wondering as I'm thinking about using a Hugo TT as a dac in the system I'm putting together, for use with the Abyss AB-1266 headphones, LCD-4, and HD800S. I'm guessing its output power would be good for the HD800S and decent for the LCD-4, but lacking a bit in power for the Abyss. I would likely be purchasing a more powerful amp eventually and using the TT as a dac only, but using the TT's headphone output in the meantime.

hugo has more output slam than mojo and TT has more than hugo. I didn't think hugo quite does hd800S justice in scale, slam, mid detail, TT does, it could be sufficient. I don't know about lcd4 or abyss. Granted I'm a few weeks away from my amp as well just to see what some wire and gain can add to the mix.
sorry i don't know the specs but specs alone doesn't tell the whole picture. You will notice quite an improvement with TT, never mind adding the amp.

The direct comparison is:

Dave: 6.8v x 0,15 A = 1.0 watts @ 46 Ohms
Hugo TT: 4.78V = 0,5 watts @ 46 Ohms
Mojo: 5.4v = 0.68 watts @ 46 Ohms

Dave delivers 1 watts and 0,15 Amps of current @ 46 ohms , so it is twice as powerful as the Hugo and TT.

For the HD800S, the TT has plenty on board to drive them. But the LCD-4s really need a more powerful amp. I can use the TT quite well with the T1Gen 2, HD800S, HE-1000, but the LCD-4s really need my GS-X Mk2 with the TT as the DAC to sound their best.

Mojo has more power than the Hugo TT? That is impressive.

Obviously size (watts) isn't everything.

...but essential for outstanding sound (I'm speaking of Rob Watts).

Mojo has almost the same power OP as Hugo and TT. The figure for Mojo is too high, it should be the same as TT. I don't have the exact figures to hand, but 0.5W into 46 ohms seems right for Mojo and TT.

Hi Rob!

Does the Hugo TT got higher Current Amps output power than the Mojo, or else it does not add up for me on how the Hugo TT vs Mojo got the same output power in milliwatts
if we measure the TT in SE un-balanced mode?

Mojo: 5.4v Single ended output.
Hugo TT: 4.78v SE and 5.4v in balanced mode.

The unloaded voltage OP for Mojo and TT will be the same, but it depends upon the voltage of the batteries when the test is done. So 5.4v is fully charged; 4.8v would be with a yellow or red battery light.

Just bought a Chord Hugo TT. Paired it up with Woo Audio WA 22 and Senns HD800. I still feel the treble is still too bright. Any recommendation for an Xlr interconnect to tone the treble down a bit?

Not using wa 22 but gsx mk2 with dhc chaparone 3 xlr and RCA interconnects, still a couple of weeks away, get back to the thread then.
But by still "the treble is bright" meaning for" yourself" , even direct is? I'm not there in that regard, maybe a darkish analogue transparency but that works for me. Maybe it's the. Hd800?

Hi again!

Just wanted to let people know that I had a problem with my TT that I couldn't get any sound through the HD input.

I got some tips on a Facebook forum to get an extra USB control card for my PC.

Works flawlessly now!!!

Thanks to all who tried to help me, much appreciated.

That's because the HD800 is a brighter headphone. If your amp/DAC make it sound smooth, then they are seriously rolled off. I'd recommend the HD800S.

The TT sounds beautifully dark to me, doing the anti-ruthlessly-revealing thing just right. People have called the TT the sweet spot in the Chord line, and maybe that description comes to mind because it occupies a sweet spot in DAC sonics.
It's just right to me on the resolution balance scale, a Goldilocks signature.
