duncan Did you root the Note 4 yet, or are you not going to? Since purchasing a DAP, I don't think I will root mine, at least until they figure out how to theme.
No, no root - as I've insured the handset, and no way to dodge the Knox 0x1 yet :(

Has anyone ever paired the Chord Hugo with the Sennheiser HD800?

Yep, at the risk of the firing squad, I can say for my tastes it was too bright, big soundstage and lots of detail though if you are into that. I found it to sibilant. I know that some Head-Fiers mode them to ameliorate that aspect of the sound.

I'm with you on that isquirrel.  No matter the source - optical from AK240, coax from DX90 or X3 - I find the HD800 with the Hugo to be too bright for my tastes.  My HD650 pairs much better for me.

Just making sure that all participants mentioning HD800 are talking about portable use? If not there is a whole different thread that covers home use...

I may be in the minority, but I think the HD800 sounds superb with the Hugo. I use it portably fed with coax from a DX90.

Then again, my Hugo is not entirely burned-in yet; I probably only have 30 hours on it.  Not sure if that matters.

I found that the sound of Hugo did not change much with time. Got me thinking about the HD800's again.

For me the hugo is fine with the hd800. Overall
Not many dacs or combos pull off the hd800 well. The headphones blow up plenty of setups giving the headphones a bad rap.
But good source materials play well.
But one must like the hugo sound signature
It's very neutral
