the design is ugly if that is the real product that is claimed to be released, i hope not

i like the idea but the desgin man is so bad compared to all chord products which look stunning

If the MoJo is the grand unveil then I am looking forward to it...

Far more pocketable than the Hugo :)

So bluebird music is a US wholesaler. They look legit.

Potentially clever stuff from Chord. They re- utiilse the core part of Hugo technology eg Watts software in newer FPGA chip that uses less power so can be put into a much smaller case and create a killer REALLY portable DAC that sounds great for a quarter of the price of a Hugo.

They need to be careful not to kill off Hugo or the Hugo TT, so assume that Mojo may not be used so effectively as a DAC into a HIFI stereo desk top Amplifier system or that it's sound quality isn't as clean or as beguiling as the Hugo.

This thing cannot sound better than Hugo. Let me explain.

Chord people priced it at 599. If Mojo has Hugo sound in a smaller size and lower price, every potential buyer will buy Mojo instead. Demand curve shift right, drives the price up.
Even if the Mojo is priced at 2400 same as Hugo, given its smaller size, every potential buyer will buy Mojo instead. Demand curve shift right, continues to drive the price up.

Agree Duncan. A Chord product, a chip off the Hugo/TT/DAVE block (maybe a shard?), is welcome at that size and price-point. Regarding the aesthetics, the only guarantee is that some will love it and some will hate it, but for a $600 Chord DAC (assuming the SQ is great) I'm willing to overlook certain design issues.

It actually reminds me of what Alex Cavalli is doing with his Liquid Carbon and Liquid Silicon amps, taking a highly regarded DNA and rolling it down to a lower price point, giving more people exposure and gaining a wider audience. Interestingly Chord is doing this at roughly the same time as launching DAVE, which is going up-market with DACs right as Mojo appears to be going the other direction. Kind of a three-tiered approach (Mojo = entry, Hugo = mid, DAVE = TOTL). Remains to be seen if the strategy will work, whether Chord will capture a larger part of the market and help move people upstream, or if it will be like trying to fight a war on too many fronts at once...

Cheers

Just a little heads up, Moon-audio already has the chord mojo review in the work and listed on their website on the coming up next tab.., probably will come out once the NDA embargo is lifted

Edit: sorry, its 6 moons audio reviews, not moon audio the retailer.

That might actually be one of its biggest virtues. It always bothered me about the Hugo. Now, if only my ZX-1 would not be drained so fast as well running into an amp, I might be in mobile heaven.

Little detour,  what cable do you use with the zx1,  also any changes required from a software perspective ?

I will be keen to check out the,  what is the issue with the battery drain?

you need the Sony WMC-NWH10 cable to pair with the Hugo, you get roughly 5hrs use using the ZX1>Hugo, ZX2 is a lot better due to it's bigger battery, hth...

Well that pretty much verifies it, doesn't it? As someone new to headfi, I actually look forward to reviews of this because it makes a Chord affordable.

I'm excited for Mojo, too. The iem friendly (hoping) HUGO Jr, we've been asking for.
Looks like width is of the size of iPhone 5/5s, AK 100/120 II. It's also sleeker than the Centrance bricks.
Wish the HO was also on the input side. For $599, I will take it.

What he said (sheesh, can't a man soak himself in the bathtub for an hour?). It terminates in a female usb, so you'll end up with two cables, which is bit cumbersome, but okay. Ordered mine from pricejapan, I think.

The battery drain is a pain, apart from that I still love the ZX-1 for its looks and sound. The ZX-2 is supposed to sound a little warmer. Has gone down in price a bit apparently since the advent of the ZX-100, although it remains the flagship, as far as I can see.

If the Walkman port might bother you, there are alternatives, of course, like the fiio X7 or the new Pioneer XDP-100R, for example. The latter sounds like a reasonably priced alternative with loads of capacity. But let's not hijack this hread.

Finally resorted to using the charger cradle because of the battery life, though far from portable.  It does only take one cable from the Hugo though and adds no noise whatsoever.

Does mojo have galvanic isolation for its usb input? If not, should one look for the most compact dap with toslink output ie AK100?
Want to see pictures of how it is carried together with slim and small daps..... to see if its actually practically portable
A little disappointed that its not a dap :-(
