Chord Electronics - Hugo 2 - The Official Thread

Interesting. I had a chance to listen to Dave with Focal utopia and a pair of Yamaha hs8. Sorry but my opinion is that hugo cannot touch DAVE. For me, Dave was the real deal, if you know what I mean. Maybe the problem with your impression was the audeze? Cheers

Sure, the headphones used may help, but after all it can also be pretty subjective how two different ears/brains perceive sound. I'm sure if I were to spend a couple hours listening to Dave I'll be able to appreciate the difference with Hugo 2 much better. My whole point was that, to me, the difference was not as obvious as when jumping from the Mojo to the Hugo 2. I now understand why some may call Hugo 2 a mini Dave, and I think it make sense IMHO. Dave was not 7,000 Euros better to me.

I certainly wanted to test Dave with the Utopia but I didn't have time, lucky you

two days at large retail electronic store trying to get questions answered about which speakers work with Hugo 2.

End result: frustration, conflicting info, unable to demo, more confused, but salesman bought a Mojo and drooled over H2.

Asking questions of people who know as little or less than you do is not likely to get you to a good place. Consider yourself fortunate that you where not advised/convinced to buy unsuitable equipment.

i hope to have a dave by the summer. if anyone is patient enough i will post my impressions of dave vs H2 in exactly 8 to 9 months from now..............:L3000::L3000::L3000: time flies. i'm using mojo/roon till then with oppo pm1 and optical.

Sure does, not long now before the Christmas madness starts and then we can look forward to a long dark Winter before the Summer flies by again! :smile_phones:

Mostly plan to use the Hugo 2 with my IPad or Questyle QP1R. I will most use the H2 to drive my LCD i4 or MrSpeakers Aeon while out and about. I will use the H2 as a desktop dac, hooked up to my Cavalli Liquid Carbon or Schiit Audio Jotunheim. I have started listening to the Hugo 2 and it sounds superb, definitely better than the Schiit Audio Gungnir multibit and the Hugo 2 seems to approach the level of the Yggdrasil if not surpass it when I am using my LCD i4’s. And when you factor or in that’s this spectacular sound can be enjoyed while walking about, is so bloody surreal/ absurd.

Yes. A salesperson in a large retail store keeps their job because they can sell lots of gear, and not necessarily because they know anything about how/why the gear works.

Congratulations! I am looking forward to purchase one soon. Can you review how it sounds with Utopia? I have the same HP and like to know if I should buy Hugo 2.

Yeah please compare the yggy to the hugo 2 as much as possible this is the sort of objective review Ive been looking for and sadly only one I could find is by currawong and at this point hes not even subtle about his bias towards chord

^ One user have compared both on YouTube and found that Hugo 2 is better than Yggy (which used to be his main DAC before the DAVE, but noted that Yggy is better than Hugo 1).

We're both mentioning currawong though

I will simply listen to the music and then grok what I am hearing and compare the Hugo 2 to the Yggdrasil. I must admit I would very much like to own the Chord Dave but have not found any offers for my kidney lol
