The firm Chord contracted with (https://www.designdirectory.com/firm/main?firm_id=283496&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1) appears to be out of business. I don’t know what the contract terms were, but they should now be able to get someone else in to modify the code? But we may be getting to the point where a hardware refresh is in order, and that would be more cumbersome.
Oh I didn't know that. I hope Chord has access to the codebase as well as IP rights for it.

Doesn’t surprise me to hear this. And it does explain the firmware update server weirdness.

The poly hardwire likely is capable of far more than the FW allows. Streaming even the highest quality DSD doesn’t take much computing power. Maybe upgrading the processor would make mpd indexing a bit faster. Same with the WiFi chip. 2.4ghz has plenty of bandwidth for all audio.

I would like them to support more streaming protocols (Qobuz connect for example) and less on making it a screenless DAP. IMHO

I'm a glass half-full kinda person so I'm going to choose to believe that with Disign Consultants being no more Chord are looking for/have now found someone else to handle the Poly and will eventually (hopefully not too eventually) pop up with a new update server and a FW that, at least, moves on the MPD version and maybe also allows you to connect various streaming services. You're not going to see them open source the code for anyone to fiddle with and it certainly doesn't seem as if Chord sees the Poly as defunct.

What i'd like most is to have the mpd.config accessible, disable dlna.

Given that in a recent interview Chord teased that a TT range streamer would arrive, I expect that Chord have put the software developers in place.

There was a burst of enthusiasm for open source in 2018, but none of the enthusiasts wanted to devote time to such a project, plus none of them expected Chord to open source the code.

They should have simply had the Poly managed by a company with the BIG expertise concerning these matters.
In fairness to Chord, the disignconsultants.com website did claim industry expertise in developing music playing/streaming solutions.
With the benefit of hindsight, I suspect that many Poly owners/posters would challenge that level of confidence.

Yes, and back in 2016, according to John Franks who owned and ran Chord, it was a difficult thing to create a Poly: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/chord-mojo-1-dac-amp-☆★►faq-in-3rd-post-◄★☆.784602/page-1677#post-12981188

Absolutely. That's almost 10 years ago now.

Chord aren't a massive company and would need to acquire resources and specialist expertise from outside. I really wouldn't hope for any further development. I'm happy it still works and sounds fabulous.

Chord failed in delivering on its promises. No glossing it over
