I fully understand your view point but we are trying to be as open as possible as this stimulates diologue that feeds back into the design process. Firstly I think your assuming the guys at the show are the design boffins which they are not. They are really good sales and production personnel from Chord who have had some training on this brand new product therefore'they like most guys when given some thing totally new are feeling their way as the design is still evolving somewhat even at this late stage. So for instance the teams there had not been advised of the DLNA Wi Fi output feature as it is new in the samples we are working with prior to the production units being made available soon The design of this unit is being completed by a very specialist consultant design team they are based in the midlands work is still on going and will continue right up to production.

Hi John,

And I am not in any way trying to be negative. A month ago, being an (early) retiree, I committed myself to drive 200 miles from East Sussex and pay for an overnight hotel in order to attend the Show. This was just to experience Poly and Hugo2. You personally sold me my Hugo through Metropolis 2015 and I am impressed with the amount of time that you, Rob and Colin have been prepared to spend with me. I listen to either Hugo or Mojo almost every evening and am a real aficionado of Chord's ethos. I had a very open discussion with your "non boffins" and explained I was keen to invest but was frustrated that Chord couldn't yet fully articulate what Poly could do. I think we are all in agreement that this is a solution which could be immense but still needs refining. I would love to try out the final product but in the meantime will continue, as I am now, to listen to London Grammar via Mojo and think wow!

You are understandably frustrated, but it would have been unethical for the Chord team to claim that the Poly had all the functionality that you want, just in order to capture your order. I think the team were very honest to admit that they didn't yet know all the final functionality of the final production version of the Poly.

No. I am not frustrated. Having worked in software development for 30 years I am fully understanding and supportive.

Interesting that the phone shows 192/24 since JRemote app description says 96/24 is the limit. What colour is the Mojo ball?

I am not sure which extra features you think Poly would give - other than its own internal storage which you don't plan to use.

If you are thinking of wireless streaming from the iPhone to Poly when away then I'm not sure that is possible in your scenario. If you were running JRemote then how would you control Poly?

The problem is that this is all hypothetical at the moment. I was talking to Chord boffins at the Bristol Show on Friday about hires streaming from an iPhone. They were coming up with ideas and then saying "that might work but we haven't tried it". So until Chord fully know what is possible it's impossible for the rest of us.

The Mojo ball is blue indicating that JRemote is presenting a 192 sample rate. My understanding on the control issue is that I would use my iPhone to manage JRemote and the Poly (both being separate apps). I agree that some is still hypothetical (I've seen the subsequent posts) but some functionality is becoming clear. I want wireless, I want to have use of the micro SD card (I'm not always online), I want great sound, ease of use, and instant access to my entire library, and I would very much like to avoid an unnecessary purchase unless it is needed to achieve my goal. I suspect I'll hold off on the JRemote until the Poly functionality is more clear and then pull the trigger on one or both.

To Pictograms' comment, I poke around with the router settings from time to time. However, I'm not as familiar with those settings and how that would help. I'd appreciate any further guidance.

If you set up remote access on your router and a DDNS(for ease) couldn'tt you access your music everywhere?
A hotspot and cellular data would make your mojo(poly) think your athome all the time.

To set up remote access or even a private DDNS does not mean devices connect to your home network over internet be identified as local LAN devices.
Actually JRemote got its own kind of DDNS function, to always know the IP address of your computer that had JRiver MC installed, because both your phone and computer are connected JRiver's server.
DDNS is not necessary  if you use JRiver MC/JRemote to connect to your home NAS.

I may be completely off the mark, but I suspect there are two main reasons for all the confusion surrounding Poly:

1. The sales and marketing teams at Chord forced a product announcement before it was ready, probably around 6-9 months too early.

2. There is some concern at Chord that they got the pricing wrong and they are working hard to add software value to the product to make it better value for us the end users.

The software could be regularly field updated but I suspect they want to get it perfect first time this is very very difficult to achieve, maybe even impossible. The obvious reason for this desire is that software development is very expensive, especially if its being done by and external entity.

I hope the Poly is a success for Chord like the Mojo is, but we will only know for sure after the next few months.

Could I ask for the current target launch date from @mojoideas, please? I'm hearing May in this thread, but the Chord Poly website still says early March. I'm excited to get one, and could do with knowing if I should stop being excited for a couple of months!

I think the website is out of date.

This post says shipping in April for everything announced at CES. http://www.head-fi.org/t/831345/chord-electronics-hugo-2-the-official-thread/930#post_13284919

Rob Watts posted that the Hugo 2 production code is completed, and it has also been posted that initial production is about to start, so March/April still seems realistic for many of the pre-orders.

The Poly is slightly behind the Hugo 2 in development terms, because the production code for the Poly is not yet completed.  So probably a case of hope for the best (April) but be prepared for the worst (May).

See the bottom of this Feb 23 update from the Chord North American distributor:

The dealer I preordered from also called me to say they received an email from Chord saying "May."

Our latest assumptions are 4 week in march for first production units. There will be a production ramp up and no doubt distribution issues though as we are not a huge corporation we are hoping we should be getting on top of things by mid April,

Designers always work better if there is a deadline, but with a product like Poly it's never been done before we have been pushing at the unknown boundries of what is technically possible feeding in user information and requested new parameters of peformance. When I came up with the idea for Poly I had no idea it could be done within the power constraints and performance criteria that would make it viable! What has been done was not thought to be possible but we have driven the development through to production. So frankly I don't care if we are a few weeks late against our initial predictions Poly is a truly amazing piece of kit that I know our customers will love because it works and works very fast and very well. I know you will love it!

This still looks like a great add-on to the mojo, but I still have some questions about how streaming to the device will work, especially when my phone and poly are not connected to wifi. And it seems as though this is in active development. And since it looks like no case will be included with early units, as interested as I am in this, it doesnt seem like there is any direct benefit to jumping onboard until I can read some real reviews of the final unit and see if it really fits my needs to make it worth the price.

Thanks for the reply John, I honestly believe that I will love it!
