Just to stick my oar in – I'm one of the silent maj- or min- ority [delete as applicable] that's quietly getting on with things with a Poly that works, when it's in the right mood, but who certainly isn't over the moon with current performance. Obviously waiting on Patch 3 and the App before making my mind up as to whether the device works as advertised or not.
My use cases are:
- Use Case 1: Home listening via Roon when at my desk.
- Use Case 2: Using via iPhone hotspot and SD card when travelling / commuting.
On Use Case 1: Like others that have commented on this thread, my wifi network is fine. I've got a lot attached to it (Bluesound, Hue, Apple TV, various computers and consoles, etc), and it works flawlessly with everything else. Roon on Poly is
generally fine, but I have occasional dropouts. Nothing too bad, but surprised that I get them at all. I wouldn't expect such a device to suffer from dropout whatsoever – particularly when said Apple TV is more than happy wirelessly streaming HD content without any problems (also: Bluesound – another smallish audio specialist – their UI is horrendous (companies like Bluesound / Chord really should outsource their dev to app specialists – imagine how cool GoFigure would be if they got Dude From Glider to sort it out for them?), but at least the wifi performance is flawless). I'm generally listening to CD-quality, or 96/24.
On Use Case 2: Way more hassle than Use Case 1. I suffer from the 'won't turn on' problem. Opening the case, breaking apart MojoPoly, and reconnecting usually does the trick, but not always. I don't really want to have to open the case each time, to be honest – don't want to wear out the lock mechanism. Having to remember the SIM pin (I'm not calling it a 'Configuration Tool', sorry!) has bitten me on the backside on more than one occasion. I have problems getting the MojoPoly to recognise my iPhone hotspot. I have problems with MojoPoly staying connected to it (typified by 8Player not moving to the next track until I've jumped back into my phone; very much looking forward to making the switch to Glider, btw – 8Player is horrible). I know I can connect to MojoPoly's own hotspot, but that means I can't use my phone, and that's not an option for me. Plus: it's a workaround, and a flawed one at that, and I shouldn't have to.
So yeah, patiently waiting. Not pro-Poly (although I'd like to be), not anti-Poly. Just waiting.
