Advice from Poly users, please. 🙏

When using Chord’s Poly in Hotspot mode, can I stream music downloaded in the Qobuz app on my iPhone? If so, in principle, is this a reliable way of streaming, including Hi-Res files without hiccups?

If this how Poly works in Hotspot mode, I assume Poly in Hotspot mode does not allow using Roon ARC, as this app requires the mobile device to be online — not possible if the mobile phone is engaged in a local Wi-Fi network with Poly. Is my understanding correct?

Many thanks!

Other than AirPlay, I don't know of any way to play Qobuz app downloads with Poly. Likewise with Roon ARC. Of course both will work fine with USB to Mojo (but no Poly)... Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Note that you can stream with UPnP/DLNA using something like mConnect, but Qobuz offline downloads are not supported.

If you run it in hybrid mode I believe you are bypassing the AirPlay app. At least , mojo says it’s coming in at the original bit rate. I’m using JPLAY. Not sure if that gives access to the “downloads” that Qobuz does that force you to be logged onto them. I’m going to download some files from Qobuz later and try adding em to the SD card and see what happens

I'm not really sure what "hybrid mode" is. I just connect Poly to my iPhone's hotspot and it works when away from home and no wifi. I did see a post about "hybrid mode" that was a convoluted setup trying to use Poly's hotspot, but I have never had or seen the need for that.

The only way to get bit perfect streaming from Qobuz to poly is using a third party app like MConnect or Jplay as mentioned above.

There is no ability for the Qobuz app on either iOS or Android to stream DLNA to poly. Doesn't matter how you have the poly connected (hybrid or Wifi).

This is Cribbed from a much earlier portion of this thread"

You can use your cellular wireless when connected to Mojo2+Poly running in Hotspot mode.

This works well if you are using the Poly for SD card playback and you carry only one mobile phone. Instructions are for Apple, Android devices do not have the option to leave the router/gateway blank.

The Poly will have a iOS network name “Poly-########”. This is located on the iPhone’s Settings -> Wi-Fi.

Choose the small “I” in circle to the right of the Poly’s name in Network and complete the following:

*** Change “Configure IP” to manual.

Choose any 192.168.1.xxx address except 192.168.1.1

Subnet Mask is 255.255.255.0

Leave Router blank.

*** Configure DNS manually - 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 are Google’s DNS servers and they work fine.

I also enable “Low Data Mode”

iOS will remember your settings unless you choose “Forget this Network”.

The blank gateway will allow iOS to route items destined to the internet to your cellular data instead of the Poly (which is 192.168.1.1).

Auto-Join will connect to the Poly network when it’s available and disabling Auto-Login will prevent the Poly’s internal login page.

That's the same post I saw earlier. Using the phone's hotspot is much easier (for me) and AFAIK it works just as well, unless I'm missing something...

Many thanks for your replies to my enquiry on the use of Qobuz in Poly’s hotspot mode. It sounds like Poly doesn’t offer what I am after. To me it seems the utility of the hotspot mode is somewhat limited, but possibly I am missing something... I guess I am sticking with Mojo 2 wired to my phone when I am on the move. Thanks again!

You can only listen to downloaded, non purchased music bit perfect off Qobuz app with Mojo2 connected directly to your phone.

If that is your primary use, you are correct that Poly won't work for you.

Just got a new Mojo 2 and Poly set.
It was on 3.2.4 out of the box and the P status light just started flashing red, green and blue out of nowhere.

There is no update according to GoFigure- any ideas? Has there been a new update that wasn’t announced?

EDIT: it has been a while, the SD card is indexing so not an update

I've got a new 1 TB samsung Evo plus, my poly doesn't recognize it. Is there a limit to poly microSD card size?
There is no limit to the SD card size that Poly supports. See page 17 of the manual. You could try reformatting the SD card to exFAT though and making sure the card only has one parent folder containing all your music.

Reformatting works.

On another note, I've been down the rabbit hole of upsampling my music using PGGB. I iust noticed that poly doesn't not like playing any file larger than 4 gb. I thought I put it out there.

Is the sound quality noticeably better with PGGB upscaling on mojo2?

I cannot say conclusively as I have a wide mixture of results.
Well recorded music, well sound more alive and sharper. But poor recording, simply sound unchanged. I don't think PGGB (paid version) is worth it for Mojo 2, but the free one is certainly worth trying for your favourite albums. Only way to know is trying.
