in practice MAFA can automatically detect the IP of the renderer connected to the same access point, this is possible whether it is a fixed access point such as a home network or via smartphone, in the latter case just share the WiFi network of the phone, connect the Poly to it and open MAFA, and it will detect it automatically
Thank you. I will give it another try, I had no joy on my Pixel 8 Pro, but I did try it on another Android phone before reading this message and I was able to connect via Wi-Fi but not my phones hotspot.

I couldn't get MAFA to recognize poly over phone hotspot either. There's a post explaining how to setup the hotspot to work better with poly.

To be honest, I just use poly in hotspot mode to use MAFA on the go. Works great and about as easy as my DAPs for local file playback.

This definitely used to work, but I can confirm it no longer works. iPhone 15 Pro as well. I am going to guess Apple must have changed how the broadcast packets are handled in their hotspot’s software, which is unfortunate 😔

For now, to get MConnect while away from home working, Poly’s hotspot node seems to be the way. In order to use that but still use cellular for data, you need to clear the router from iPhone’s WiFi connection under the Poly’s network. Connect to the Poly’s hotspot, click the (i) next to the connected network, then set the IPv4 settings like this. Phone data will then go over cellular, but DLNA/UPnP in MConnect and MPD will still work. Also because this is under the Poly saved SSID, it won’t effect other SSIDs and will be remembered for Poly’s.

I tried this, it won't work? My Iphone refuses to connect to poly hotspot with this manual configured, and if it does it only gives you the option without internet....
so some advice?

If I use dhcp IP with hotspot, I get a popup window, and also then gives you the option connect without internet?

Iphone gives the message unsecure network

I may have missed this already being said, but why not ditch the Poly hotspot and connect Poly to your iPhone hotspot? That’s my solution. Works every time.

to get the Poly log in page to stop popping up you need to uncheck out login in your wifi properties for that Poly

btw I do believe the stock setting is adequate for accessing the SD card with 3rd party apps
I try to understands what you mean? uncheck or check the auto login wifi setting does not do anything? both ways the Poly log in page keeps poping up?

yes that works for SD card files, but not if you want to use mconnect and qobuz when not at home. because if Iphone is the hotspot, mconnect does not see the Poly anymore. When poly is the hotspot mconnect sees the Polu as a UPNP device, but if I can't use phone data than that is useless ofcourse.

It would be nice to be able to use qobuz as well and not only be forced to use the sdcard outside of the house

The only way my Iphone wants to connect to poly hotspot is 'connecting' at manual (so no auto connect). and IP automatic, the moment I try manual IP I just get a rotating icon untill I enable auto IP again, then it connects. But then cellular data is offline because router gateway is set again to the Poly.

So how did other get this working??? hotspot is useless this way (no ofcourse not for sdcard, but for mconnect/Qobuz it is useless this way)

AirPlay from the Qobuz app to Poly using the phone hotspot? Ditch MConnect altogether? I do that, and use Rigelian for the SD card.

I’m pretty sure Poly is AirPlay 1. Is that right? Anything streaming to or from AirPlay 1 is lossless. Airplay2 to airplay2 can be lossy, not sure if it always is.
AirPlay 2 tops out at 24/48.
When I AirPlay Qobuz on mobile data I limit it to CD quality and the sample rate light on Mojo2 shows CD quality.

Not sure if all Poly’s use the same subnet or not, so if you tried my exact settings it may have failed. Basics of what I did, let it connect, get a DHCP IP, and see what it gets. Set it to manual, set the same IP and subnet mask but leave the gateway blank. The blank gateway will allow the iPhone to use the Poly’s network for Poly things, but then force the rest of traffic to cellular.

The table here is usually what I reference:

AirPlay 1 in the mix is better for audio quality

Thank you worked like a dream for my Phones Hotspot

I finally had a minute or two (that's a lie was due somewhere but wanted to get MAFA to work ) but I have managed to get everything sorted and it wasn't too difficult.

I have managed to set up 2 profiles, one for using my phone as a hotspot and one for myWi-Fi at home. In both cases using Go Figure to ensure that my Mojo/Poly was on the correct network. I set up Hotspot 1st, this was automatically found by MAFA but setting up the second network this I had to do manually.

I really wish Roon would come out with an app that would control poly (sd card) without having to be on the same network as your server.

I have tried and paid for lots of IOS apps in the last few days to control poly when not on my home network and think I have decided mconnect is probably the best all around.

8player pro is nice but I can’t seem to get it to play gapless with my live albums.

Rigelian refuses to display my album art located in my flac folders.

JPlay doesn’t display my album art correctly, it distorts it somehow and doesn’t have a browse by folder option unless I am missing it. For some reason it only shows some of my albums with only a song or 2. Plus the yearly fee is absurd.

Neutron seems to be ok, but it has quite a few options that I haven’t quite figured out if they do anything when utilizing poly.

Is JRiver an option?

Is anyone utilizing anything else?

Do any of these apps play directly from the poly to mojo 2 or do they all stream to the app and then back to poly? I only ask because it seems the volume control works on most of the apps.

For MPD and UPnP, if Poly is the server and also the client, it is transferring directly from the Poly sd card to the Mojo without going through the phone. The phone is only the controller. Of course this is not true with Tidal and Qobuz streaming (through MPD or UPnP) as the phone is the music source (not the sd card).

Here’s another one to try:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/mpd-pilot/id1536331909

I believe for the Poly to send album art to these clients (I forget if it’s both or just MPD) it has to be cover.jpg in the root of the album’s directory.
