Cayin RU7: 1-Bit Resistor Network Dongle DAC /Amp

Is it at the beginning a new track when the new track is encoded with a different resolution than the prior one? Happens to me on some DACs.

This is not the case with RU7 because we have all-to-DSD features in the Donge DAC. All incoming bitstream will be converted to a specific 1-bit signal before entering the DAC circuit.

The Cayin RU-7 consumes 180mA in DSD64 setting and outputs 400mW/32Ω. It is not efficient but not that much either. As an example the FiiO KA15 consumes 140mA.

Just to add one point that power drain is related to both voltage output and current capacity. You have explained the former factor. To explain this in a simple term. when we have two ampliication circuits than both output 100mA per channel, they don't necessarily shared the same capability to carry a difficult load. The circuit with higher current capacity can carry a more difficult load, but it will also drain more power.

Hello and good day , I am new here and I recently purchased Cayin RU7 to experience 1 BIT DAC for the first time and for the Line Out mode. My question is regarding the Line Out mode and I want to pair RU7 with a desktop amp Topping L30ii , what is better a 3.5 mm stereo to RCA stereo cable or a 4.4 to RCA cable ? Thank you

RCA is a single ended connection, there is no benefit to use a 4.4mm to RCA cable.

4.4mm to rca can fry up your dac. If ground of both rca channels are connected inside, when you connect 4.4mm you will short circuit r- and l- and that may fry your dac.

Quick question - when playing High Res Tidal tracks, which are FLAC, the RU7 never displays anything but 44.1khz, however Tidal displays 96khz for some tracks. Is this a conversion function of the DAC?

No, something is downsampling your audio before sending it to the DAC. What is your source device? It it’s a cell phone or a computer, the operating system is probably doing it.

I had attached it to my Mac laptop. I'm not sure why it's doing it. I didn't notice it with my phone, I'll have to investigate it some more.

Mac OS will not vary the output sample rate or resolution automatically between tracks with Apple Music if that is your streaming software. iPhones and iPads, on the other hand, will do it.

You have to turn on the exclusive setting on Tidal to get the bit-perfect streaming to your DAC.

I found this setting in the MacOS and made the necessary changes. Thank you.

Yes, I use Tidal on my desktop Mac at home and didn't recall having to do this for the desktop setup. Thanks for the reminder.

Does anyone use the RU7 with Hifiman headphones such as HE1000 SE, Stealth or Unveiled?

Please make firmware update to prevent ru7 turn off and pop while it thinking no signal. I listen classical music in dsd and hi res with wide dynamic range and in quiet areas of many tracks it pop-click. Thank you.
Pretty sure there isn’t any firmware on the ru7 and it can’t be done as it’s a 1bit architecture.
