I would think that feature would be essential as most people only have a few DSD albums, if any. But will the quality be as good as PCM converted to DSD offline and then playing back from an SD card, that is the question, we shall find out.

In contrast the Cayin N8ii says:

Input: 5V 2A, 9V 2A

So probably means that the N7 won't charge from a normal 5V USB charger/computer and requires a minimum of QC2.0 for the 12V, or the slight chance it has a 12V mode simlar to M17 but from the USB-C.

If this DAP doesn't have android I suppose we could up-sample stuff to DSD on a PC and then store in on a uSD card as DSD but that uses a lot of space, is it possible to lossless compress DSD stuff for playback on a DAP?

.DSF files can be compressed to WavPack - you can free up to 40-60% disk space. But I'm not sure if any android player will read that format.

I can see a lot of resistors all arranged in neat lines, that would have been the best hint to date if the cat wasn't already out of the bag.

My guess was correct

For best sound we'll need to convert everything to DSD.

Partly why I got the Sony Walkman, the upsampling to DSD and other upsampling of lower quality audio.

Neither is exclusive to one or other, both r2r can be upsampling as well as NOS, same goes for delta sigma, which can also be upsampling or NOS. One is topology on what DAC is built and operates, other is a method of feeding the audio information to the DAC.
In this case it's discreet delta sigma dac, with definitely required upsampling
