DSC1 is an Open Hardware, "discrete" delta-sigma D/A-converter developped by Signalyst(HQPlayer) able to convert the DSD signal to analog without noise.

PCM signal can be converted to DSD using AK4137 chip(or better option - SRC4192+AK4137, like in this project https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/simple-dsd-src-for-beaglebone.358147 ).

Or Cayin can use their own upsample/conversion FPGA.

My guess was correct

For best sound we'll need to convert everything to DSD.

Something tells me it'll cost over $1000. Not sure if that'd be considered "midfi" at this point, since it's practically impossible to hear the difference most of the time.

New AK4191 doesn't support 1-bit. Old one AK4137, support 1-bit conversion, but only to DSD256. I guess FPGA will be used.

Design looks cohesive with shared N8ii aesthestics. Looks adequately good

Hopefully the styled volume knob has a smoother and resistance rotation compared compared to N8ii's odd slack-like turn.
