Cayin N6ii, Unlimited Possibilities: a fully modularized smart DAP

I’m going to happily show my ignorance here, but R2R still uses actual DAC chips right? My old desktop setup had something like 8x of the old Burr Brown PCM1704 chips. Getting a DAP with that kind of sound would be a dream come true. Does R01 use an array of delta sigma chips like that? If so, what are they?

No DAC chips. 48 resistors per channel doing digital to analog conversion through R-2R resister ladder array, literally discrete resistors.

More info about R01 is on Cayin official page.

on a sidenote - i've noticed that there's a new case for the Ti users. Those having both the old and new one -- how is it guys? Which do you prefer?
On a design perspective the holes at the back of the new case seems nice and edgy but I doubt that would be good in the long run given that some parts of the back is exposed. what do you all think?
New case is much nicer, IMO, and plus pairs perfectly with the C9 case, also improving the imaging and detail retrieval in the process....:nerd:

My initial impression on Ti is rather positive. It sort of lacks wetness, depth and sophistication in comparison to P6 Pro but it is definitely improving with more burin time.
I am relieved all the ingredients for R2R wow factor are intact with Ti. The user interface is a light year ahead of Pro which is exciting. I could now load 1TB and have all files EQ'd without an issue. Talk about sorting and searching songs.....Pro provides no support on that. Nevertheless, I am a little annoyed by the volume control screen staying up a little too long. Also, is there a way to disable screen lock? I had the screen lock option to "none" but it still prompts "slide to unlock" every time I turn on the screen.

You can hit the home/back button to quickly close the volume control screen.

any tips how to disable the breathing circle light while charging?
i love listening in my pitch black room with blackened windows and no seepages from outside world at all. i don't need visuals to indicate it's charging, the battery icon does that.

Maybe I am being too lazy here but I just want the damn thing to come up as it was...:)
Frankly the screen lock appears to be a little more annoying. Any idea how to stop the player from locking the screen?

You disabled lock screen in Android security setting, right? And I assume you are using HibyMusic player? Go in Settings of HibyMusic and turn off LockscreenSetting in there. I assume you know how to get to that setting, user icon in upper left corner.

Don't think that status indicator light could be turned off.

I can understand that. I still use my old (1990s) AVM Evolution DAC3 (EDIT: modded) from time to time. It has one BurrBrown PCM1704 chip per channel, unfortunately not the K selection.

Thus, purchasing the R01 also had a little bit of nostalgia to it, besides the SQ aspects.

Well I actually had two N6ii before so I know but maybe I have been spoiled by DX300 and R6 2020, M8 is in between.
I don't mind too much has a lot of my Tidal collection is synced offline.

Still, I hope there is a N6iii (or N8ii) down the line compatible with a more modern Soc and bigger screen preferably compatible with N6ii card :p

In the meantime N6ii / R01 is quite a combo that competes with the best and I don't feel cheated against M8 or DX300 (with AMP11 or AMP12).

Any thoughts versus M8?

I sold my N6ii(A01/T01/E01/E02) after getting M8. I thought M8 had better macro-dynamics and better clarity/layering/detail over all the cards I had. Did R01 somehow break out of that? I have no complaints about the UI/player in N6ii...

Thats then when the M8 was new. Now in order to buy something it sounds different.
