Cayin N6ii, Unlimited Possibilities: a fully modularized smart DAP
Apr 2, 2024 at 12:14 AM Post #8,176 of 8,191
@Andykong Due to "rooted device detection" is added on the Apple Music app 4.7.0, it doesn't work on the N6ii that is detected as rooted device.
I'm not sure if other Cayin DAPs have the same issue.

Are you going to prepare the firmware to fix it?
FYI: https://twitter.com/AssembleDebug/status/1764191626564604087

You have rooted your N6ii and Apple Music has disabled their service because of that? I am not aware of this problem, thank you for advising me of the potential problem from Apple Music. I need to add this question to our custom service checklist so that when we receive complaints that their Apple Music is not working suddenly, we know this might be the problem they have encountered.

Unfortunately, N6ii is a discontinued product, we have no plan to add new features to the N6ii DAP.

No, I've never rooted the N6ii. Please don't misunderstand.
Because "SU binary" exists on the stock firmware
, Apple Music 4.7.0 detects the N6ii as rooted.
FYI: https://twitter.com/AssembleDebug/status/1764191626564604087

Generally, "SU binary" only exists on Android devices that users have rooted themselves, but it exists on the "unrooted" N6ii.
I assume unnecessary "SU binary" was included on the stock firmware unintentionally or by mistake.

Other Android-based Cayin DAPs with stock firmware might have the same issue.

I understand the lurking issue that the stock firmware contains "SU binary" was brought to light by the rooted device detection feature on Apple Music 4.7.0.

AFAIK, Shanling, iBasso, HiBy, TempoTec, and AK are working on the firmware for this issue. And FIIO has confirmed that Apple Music 4.7.0 works fine on their DAPs.
(means "SU binary" doesn't exist on their stock firmware)

I hope you understand the issue properly, check if the stock firmware of Cayin DAPs contains “SU binary”, and release the firmware without "SU binary" for Cayin DAPs...

@Andykong You can try the Apple Music 4.7.0 on your Cayin DAP (N6ii if you have) and see what will happen.

No subscription is required. Just download the Apple Music 4.7.0 apk from apkpure, install it, and tap the Apple Music icon. Then you will see "Only Available on Unrooted devices - Apple Music is no longer available on rooted devices."
https://apkpure.net/apple-music/com.apple.android.music

Apple Music 4.6.0 works properly on the stock firmware including "SU binary" until Apple no longer supports 4.6.0, because it has no "rooted device detection" feature.

Why people use Apple Music on an Android DAP is beyond me, I tried it once and it was horrendous.

Good luck getting a fix for this issue, my "guess" is its time for Apple Music users to move on from the N6ii.

Apple Music users can still stay on the N6ii.

There are possible workarounds:
1. Use Apple Music app 4.6.0 instead of the latest 4.7.0. This works fine until Apple drops support for the 4.6.0.
https://apkpure.net/apple-music/com.apple.android.music/download/4.6.0

2. Apple Music 4.7.0 works even on rooted Android devices with Magisk by adding Apple Music to DenyList. So if the user can root the N6ii, the 4.7.0 will also work on it. Though I've never tried and I'm not sure if it's possible.

@Andykong Have you cleared up the misunderstanding?

Sorry to inform you that we won't be providing any firmware update to N6ii.

We were occupied by the Shanghai Headphone Expo (last weekend) and CanJam Singapore (this weekend), sorry for not coming back promptly.

You don't need to be sorry, you did the best you could with the time you had, learn to feel ok not to make everything all at once, you won't be able to do that

Apple Music is a viable streaming option, this is also my personal choice even when I didn't own any Apple hardware.

I need a streaming service that offers a decent Hong Kong music collection but I can't stand Tidal because 90% of the Chinese album titles and artist names are recorded in Pīnyīn instead of Chinese characters, making it impossible to do any searching for my daily use. By the way, Quboz is not available to Hong Kong "officially" so my choice is limited.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't know you were occupied and thought you were ignoring me...
Anyway, I understood Cayin not to provide any firmware update to N6ii. That's a discontinued product.

Hopefully current and future Cayin DAPs will not face the "rooted device" issue on Apple Music (and other streaming apps).

Thanks again, I always respect and appreciate your great work at Head-Fi.

I understand, I suppose if Apple music is your only option then its your only option.

I'm lucky to have access to all the streaming services. I tried Apple for a while when I first got an iPhone and also tried it on the N6ii but on the N6ii the App seemed slow and clunky compared to the others so I swapped back to Qobuz.

The playback mode control icon is located on the main playback screen as highlighted below, you can toggle the icon to select the desired mode. There are four options: shuffle, play all once, repeat the current track, and repeat all tracks.
