The German importer, at Cayin.com
Nice to deal with. Preordered it 1.5 weeks ago.
OK good to know. I preordered mine from UK. Hopefully won't be hit with customs fee.

The key questions remain:
(1) Noises only with 4.4 BAL out from N6ii to C9
(2) Noises only when NO audio is playing, i.e. no player app running or in Pause/Stop

I just tested 2 source scenarios, using N6ii w/E02 and R6 2020. Also, I used the following 4.4mm IC cables, Cayin IC cable without GND and Eric's Eletech Iliad 6W IC with GND connected. And I switched Xelento stock cable to Ken's ALO Smokey 4.4mm cable. C9 is set to tubes, low gain, AB class.

From what I'm hearing, when no audio is playing, Xelento hisses with R6 2020 + C9, a typical waterfall background noise. And even in instrumental tracks, my usual Agnes Obel "The curse" test track, I hear the waterfall background hissing in the intro with either grounded or non-grounded IC. With N6ii w/E02 + Xelento, it is very quiet with either cables. Maybe a very faint background waterfall type of hissing, but it is very hard to detect.

Thank you, @twister6, for taking the time to check and report. So this confirms how things should look like.

Thank you, it helps when we have a reliable opinion and a hardware inventory that can cover the exact combination. You are the man. :beerchug:

Just as an aside, my R01 is reported to wait for me at the post office to be picked up on Monday. Owning all the modules now except for the E01, my dear N6ii better get well-behaved sooner than later …
i hope this is a sign that we'll soon be seeing R01 feedbacks :)

Sorry to reiterate: Absolutely not!!! Please consider to read my posts carefully - sorry I have to say that.
There is nothing to be sorry for. I do feel sorry for you for all this troubles though. I just wanted to be sure that your problems were not hisses and stay on it tracks.

Your next move would be to ask your dealer or a friend who has N6ii and try swapping out the N6ii main body to see if it eliminates the problems

Thank you, all fine.

My next steps this morning were to order a 4.4 TRRRS interconnect cable by iFi, already shipped within Germany. The other action was to contact the German importer, asking whether he has spares or demo units; no answers yet. Of course, you are right, the most important thing besides the arrival of the iFi IC would be to get hold of another N6ii main body. My hopes are on the importer. I know that my dealer doesn‘t have demo units of head-fi gear, especially not during the pandemic. Unfortunately, I don‘t know a friend with such gear within reasonable driving distance.

Sigh, I‘m waiting patiently (at least trying to).

And, huhhh, I picked up my new R01 this morning. Should have been fun, but … No, I wouldn‘t listen to it yet, because there is this little animal called a nagster sitting in my head: ”What if the N6ii indeed is malfunctioning, and what if some junky noise / misguided voltages creep into the DAC/AMP module?“

Hey guys, I currently have the Shure SE846 and was thinking of buying the Empire Ears Odin. Does anyone has experience with the Odin paired with the Cayin N6ii ?
Or maybe other high end IEM that will match better this DAP? I also have the Hiby R6 and the Sony Nw-WM1a for that matter.
I use the combo of Odin and N6II /E02. It's a wonderful match! Highly recommended.

Thanks for the feedback. I still don't have the E02 but maybe I'll buy it. First I need to try the R01 that i pre-ordered.
