Cayin N6ii, Unlimited Possibilities: a fully modularized smart DAP
Mar 14, 2021 at 1:22 PM Post #5,686 of 8,192
I've only ever used Sandisk micro-SD cards in all of my devices that require a micro-SD card. For example: SanDisk Ultra 512 GB microSDXC (Up to 100 MB/s, Class 10, U1). I listen almost exclusively to offline TIDAL playlists on my N6ii and have never had an issue with stuttering music.
Thanks and I am going to ditch this Kingston card for SanDisk as well, I just need something reliable and not wasting time worrying

With the A02 fitted, could I plug in a 3.5mm RCA to two 3.5 RCA cable, to connect to my Integrated Amp?
Yes you can, this is one of the primary application of A02 by design.

Other than an A02 Motherboard, what would fellow N6ii owners recommend when combined with a C9 Amp and without a C9 Amp? I'm torn between the T01 and E02.

For use without a C9, I would recommend the E01 motherboard. It only offers a 3.5mm unbalanced headphone output, but it does give you a Class A output and is the only motherboard to do so.

If I am in your shoes, I would opt for T01 as it is the most technical sounding of all the modules. The ESS DAC of E02 is already self sufficient wholesome sounding stellar unit that I believe is already enjoyable on its own. So I would use T01 and feed it to C9 to savor the tubes experience which I think will offer superb balance of both spectrum

I had high hopes about E01 and the promise of Class A, and I was really disappointed after I bought it. I guess it depends how you like the music. It is nothing wrong with E01, it is a great sounding motherboard with good technicalities and great soundstage but what it it's missing is dynamics and emotions. My favorite motherboard is T01 because it has great dynamics, and emotions, and to my ears great separation. The soundstage is wide but not as wide as E01, so if all you need is big soundstage and a sound that has good technicalities and a non fatiguing sound, then E01 is your route, mine is T01

I have not heard the T01. I have the E01 and A01 at the moment. I'll see if I can find a T01 for sale in the UK.

Many thanks Taz777. I've had a little search about the t'internet and found two but a bit expensive. Would you know if buying from Aliexpress is a reliable way? It's much cheaper but comes over from the Far East.

To use with C9, the quality of line out is the main consideration. E02 is the only Audio Motherboard, besides A02, that offers unamplified balanced line out, and technically, you can custom make a 4.4mm to 3.5mm interconnect to use E02 in single-end line out as well.

If you want to use N6ii as-is, then its a matter of your music and audio signature preference, and synergy with your current IEM/headphones, when knowing nothing about your personal preference, the opinion you collected might or might not be relevant to you.

That DDHiFi Case for the N6ii is a really nice fit. Stylish and solid leather. The Blue colour is actually a nice elegant match for the DAP. Attractively priced at 14.00 GBP via Aliexpress. Recommended!

Calling all owners of N6ii, can you please share your battery endurance please? here's mine:
- N6ii with E02 Module, usage with Wifi and BT turned off, playback of Tidal Offline files in Hifi/Master format. Driving fully balanced Etymotic ER4SR 45 Ohm at 32-38/100 volume High Gain setting, DAC/Amp mode AB. Device has been cycled fully charged and discharged over 5 times.

Non stop playback = 8 hours

* is that normal? was expecting closer to 10 hours.....

The N6ii is such a great device that a person like me wishes to preserve it well, in particular since the investment with two extra modules (T01+E02) besides the starter kit (A01) sums up to biggies like R8. Thus, battery care is important, at least for me. Run in flight mode when possible. However, in Corona home office times I do often play from my computer via home WiFi.

Most important: Best practice for Li ion batteries! If you care, then read up on it on the web. Don‘t do full cycles 0%-100%-0%. Stay in the range 20 to 80%, and recharge smaller amounts more often rather than the full amount at once. And don’t create temperature stress by playing and charging simultaneously. I hope to have gathered this correctly, pls check the web.

Regarding battery life: My play times always were a bit on the shorter side of what Cayin states, with all modules, right from the beginning. I guess Cayin just gives indicative numbers of hours, shouldn‘t be taken too literally. In case one really wants to hunt for those numbers it is also important to remember what file formats were specified besides bit depth and sample rate. I can imagine WAVs take less computing power than FLACs which need to be decompressed, while WAVs need more disk access.

In short: My feeling is to not worry about battery cycle times being 8 or 9 or 10 hours. Just exercise good battery care procedures.

Interesting.... I was taking part in the battery endurance/health question by testing the streaming times and power use. The N6ii automatically turned off after 2.5 hours whilst using the UK Radio App downloaded from the Play Store. Anyone encounter any auto close down of internet connection on any App? Or whilst streaming? All timers have been switched off on the N6ii and my internet connection is open with no restrictions.
