Cayin N6ii, Unlimited Possibilities: a fully modularized smart DAP

Have you tried T5p or owned one before?
How is the DAC part of A01? Still warm and musical?
Well, since v181 is neutral so it keeps the flavour of the AKM chip but with more neutrality. So I would not call it very warm but yes, still musical.
No, I did not own the T5p, unfortunately.

I tried balanced 4.4 since the amp is balanced. But yes, 3.5 mm can be a better choice since it is a dedicated line-out.

I use line out of the N6ii a lot—both to record the output as well as to a small secondary speaker-based hifi. I think the N6ii has a fantastic line out. Andy Kong has mentioned that Cayin puts a lot of effort into the line out, and I can see that.

Honestly, the line out sounds exactly like the A01 or T01 module feeding it.

good stuff.

Totally off topic (though I do use the line out with either the xduoo or the little bear with the v6 which is a stunner sound) I loved your Max Ernst painting :)

I came up with the name Loplop in the early 1980s, pre modem era, and it became my alter ego. I was floored when I discovered Ernst in college!

I need a tubed headphone amp. I’ve been using tubes in my hifi for decades, but never head-fi (although I did have a hybrid ALO for a hot second). :)

@loplop , I once had an su1 feeding an amethyst feeding a lyr3 and thought that was pretty authoritative.

Btw, thanks @Andykong and @davidmolliere for confirming no noise n6ii with f7. As soon as I unload the items I have for sale currently, n6ii is mine. As impressed by dx160 as I am, Im ready for that next tier.
I have an amethyst. Nice DAC, although I wish it staged better. Timbre is nice tho, so I stick with it.

FWIW, of the 4 DAPs I’ve had lately (R6 Pro, DX220, N6ii, M11 Pro), N6ii is quietest with my Zeus.

Any difference with 3.5 or 4.4 line out you noticed?

Which module would be the best pairing for Anole VX – A01 or T01?

Main concern is the highs and resolution. As far I as learnt, T01 is not recommended for bright IEMs. I wonder, if that’s the case.

To my ears T01 has more body in warm side which is smooth but not as much as A01. I don’t own a QDC Anole Vx so no comments. But T01 is really good for Phantom. :smile_phones:

I don’t agree with that popular wisdom. For me, it’s not as simple as “A01 is warm, T01 is bright.” I find each module has its strengths, and has a particular sound signature, but they each play with headphones differently and matchups you think would be great sometimes don’t work. In fact, I like T01 specifically with some headphones that are themselves quite bright.

I honestly couldn’t predict what a headphone would sound like on A01/T01 without trying it.

Sorry, I haven’t used the 4.4 LO. I don’t have any balanced hifi gear anymore, just single-ended.

I have used the SPDIF out, with Cayin’s long accessory cable. Worked great, as you’d expect.

A01 is excellent with the VX. It also has double the battery life and if I'm being honest I suspect the differences in sound are much less than is implied by some.

I'll be getting to listen to vx with A01/T01 when I return home on Tuesday. Quite excited to hear them, I'll post my thoughts. T01 will need a little run time 1st though....
