Unfortunately none of my fallbacks are an N5! Only a dx50, Fiio X3, X2 xDuoo.....
So collector? No, I just like quality gear!

So what is the different between "collector" and "quality gears stacker"? :D

Mark my word and let see whether we have similar impression. Is that a second handed N6? The N6 sings better after 200 hours burn-in in my experience (kind of stable after first 100 hours and the change from 100-200 hours is subtle)

It is a used N6, unfortunately my budget would not stretch to a new one, although it maybe a good choice if it gets better after burn in.  ill let you know what i thnk

I cannot figure out what was the reason behind the problem, a mysterious case indeed. I have forwarded the issue to the Engineer for testing.

For the meantime, if you have a spare TF card, please try the following:
(1) format the card in N5, copy the DSD128 files and the V3.0 firmware to the card
(2) Refresh v3.0 firmware again
(3) try to play the DSD128 file in the TF card immediately, without update music library, with and without headphone plugged in.

Fortunately you can continue to enjoy your music right now, I have a weak heart, especially with the numerous instants recently, have to take a break later .....

Yes, I'll have my Chinese New Year break very soon, has started my holiday countdown already.

Thanks for the follow-up Andy. Will do the test when I come around it...

For now, take good care of yourself and hope you enjoy your well-deserved break!

So it looks like I'll be getting my balanced cable and Dignis leather case on Monday and my replacement N5 on Thursday, so I'll be back up and running by the end of the week. Can anyone who listens to the N5 in balanced let me know what kind of battery life they get? I know normally you would get around 9 hours. I'm hoping that this will be my final portable set. The only thing I might change are my headphones, I'd like to try the Oppo PM-3's to compare to my current MDR-1A's.

What are you planning to drive with N5 balanced output, MDR-1A?  Not too familiar with these, do they have a removable cable and balanced wired headphone connector?  I never measured battery life using balanced only, but in theory you should expect some penalty.

Yes, I'm planning to drive the N5 with the MDR-1A. They have 24 ohms impedance so they are easy to drive. They do have a removable chord and I ordered a balanced cable from Surf Cable specifically for these headphones. And yea, I know I won't get the full 9 hours of battery life listening in balanced mode, I just wanna know if I should expect like 4 hours of battery life or 7 hours of battery life.

I'm not a fan of the silicone skin... Attracts dust and lint
.. Need a slim shell type of case

That's the amp circuit engaging and disengaging. Mine does that as well.

Love mine as well :) My first Dignis case was one for the iBasso DX90/DX50 so I quickly jump for one when they release one for the N5. What I like about the case is the tight fit and attention to details. Nice felt inside to protect the DAP...

At the back, they include a piece of stick-on leather to complete the "enclosed" look! Nice :)

Reference to posts #1232 and #1235 on page 83, regarding the non-linear battery reading below 20%, now I discovered something about the upper range... I'm not sure if this is actually the first time I observed on fw3.0... my impression is so. On fw 2.0, I'm pretty sure it wasn't like that because a large part of my N5 burn-in (~150hrs so far) was with 2.0, and I have been checking quite regularly and have established a general trend of the reading dropping about 10% per hour. My impression is that by the time 3.0 came, I have slowed down the burn-in frequency and ramped up DX80's, hence I may not have observed the battery level drop trend of 3.0.

Today I happened to check the battery level after running for 6hrs and I was shocked to see 71% remaining. This couldn't be. Unfortunately I didn't manage to catch the battery flat as I was out.

I have since recharged and started another run. As of 5hrs, I'm looking at 76%. If it still lasts 9hrs (means the reading really screwed up big time), it should end around 3am later (1130pm now, GMT+8). I will be staying up till around 2am and will check again. If it is still running, I won't be too worried about the battery's physical condition. But however it would mean a probable issue in fw3.0 compared to 2.0.

Update + consolidate:
- At 5hrs, battery reads 76%.
- 6hr 00min --- 71%.
- 8hr 30min --- 61%.
- Once it falls below 60%, it's speeding up. At ~8hr 40min onwards, it dropped 5% in 3mins.
- 8hr 45min --- 48%.
- 8hr 50min --- 42%.
- 8hr 55min --- 32%, now it's dropping 2% by 2%.
- 9hr 00min --- 17%.
- 9hr 05min --- 5%.

Exercise cut. Stop before player poof lol...

So battery is still ok. Could it be fw3.0? I'm tempted to flash back to 2.0 to try...

Sidetrack... btw how do I export the playlist and later import back? I've been doing firmware flashing for both N5 and DX80 recently and really dreading each time gotta setup my playlist again

Update:
- Flashed to 2.0 and running now. After 2hrs, reading is 91%. Ohno... looks like this behavior unlikely to be 3.0 related

- 6.5hrs --- 70%. I stopped the exercise and flashed back to 3.0.
