Got called here because things were becoming heated. Have removed some posts.

Please note:
  1. It is never OK to insult someone, or imply they are stupid because you are not experiencing what they are.
  2. It is not OK on this forum to personally insult anyone period.
  3. Off-topic posts about IT related situations are not helping
  4. If someone is getting out of line, don't respond to their posts - please flag them instead.

From what I have seen, several people have an issue which does not appear to be tied to a single solution so far - which is why Andy asked for more information. If the issue affects you - please contribute. If it doesn't, then maybe have a bit of respect for those who are experiencing it, and stop insinuating it is user error. We don't know this yet - which is why Andy is asking for more info.

Andy - suggestion. perhaps (to avoid clogging this thread) start a separate N3 issues thread if you don't want to sidetrack this one. Your call. Then you can specialise help to those that need it.

Thanks

First, you set the player on DAC mode, install the Cayin driver on the computer (http://en.cayin.cn/download/show?id=13481), connect N3 to the computer (I recommend another cable than the original), play music from your computer using any media player software. I personally use the Foobar2000 with some good additional components like Real Bass Exciter v1.0.12.
You can increase the volume from both the N3 and the computer, or just set the N3 to the max and play with the computer volume.
It is also important to set the Digital Filter on your N3:
- Super Slow is best for classical, bluegrass, rock, acoustic (physical instruments)
- sharp or short delay sharp is best for pop, electronica, dance
- ignore the other filters left besides the ones above and just play with these settings and see how you like it. I have learned these from this forum so I am sharing this knowledge further on.
There is more to talk about N3 settings but if you manage to handle these ones first you should be fine for now. Enjoy !!!

Very helpful post, We need contribution like this here and in HeadFi forum as a whole.

Sorry about the pop sound, my assistant will include your case in our study. Thank you for your patient and participation, appreciated that sincerely. :beerchug:

Paul, thank you for your work, your continuous support is a reason why we can enjoy HeadFi forum with passion. Good to have you watching my back.

Since users start to fill in the blanks already, I would keep this poll continue in this thread, I don't mind people coming in reporting their problem with N3 here, Cayin wants to solve the problem whenever possible and this is the best place to explore the problem, it might look dirty to my product, but it works effectively. I'll take your advice if the topic get heated again.

Thank you once again. :beerchug:

Thanks !!!! So the sound is coming from the computer but not from the headphone or earpiece plug to the N3?
Yes, the computer is the audio source and the N3 just decodes, filters and amplifies the sound in DAC mode. You will have to connect your headphones to the N3 to listen the music played on the computer.
The N3 acts as a middle man in this combination between the computer and the headphones.

I have a free goodie to share with the community and state at the same time that I am not doing any publicity or anything similar but share something I think many members will enjoy. It is about a free DSD files download from NativeDSD.com as part of their partnership with Oppo. I will copy/paste the article from my Facebook page. This is a very good opportunity to download for free expensive and difficult to find DSD files to test your N3.

The article:

We're excited to team up with OPPO Digital to release the new Oppo DSD Sampler. It includes 6 tracks that show off DSD playback in DSD Stereo and DSD Multichannel, including DSD bit rates up to DSD256! This is a DSD Exclusive, not available on SACD.

Check out Oppo's news on their new DSD Sampler and how you can download a copy at no charge today!

Christopher Vick, Product Manager for Oppo says "This OPPO Digital DSD Sampler album was curated with the help of our friends at Native DSD Music. These six tracks have been chosen to highlight the technical capabilities of our OPPO Digital universal disc players as well as the high standard of audio quality found with DSD recordings. We hope you enjoy the music and that you are encouraged to seek out more recordings from these fine artists.

These DSD tracks are offered in a variety of quality levels, from DSD64, DSD128, and DSD256. Both the OPPO UDP-203 and UDP-205 are able to play DSD64 and DSD128 files directly from a USB hard drive attached to the player. DSD256 support is available on the UDP-205 when connected to the USB DAC input from a computer using DSD compatible playback software."

Did anyone hear or has any experience with these headphones: Taction Kannon?
Can't find them anywhere on sale. I just find out about it and the reviews are fantastic, says it will blow out of the water even the JVC HA-SZ2000. I am definitely interested.
My N3 and ATH-WS1100iS sound so good together but I need deeper yet refined bass for my 90s tracks.

May I suggest you look at one of the Massdrop Fostex TH-X00 family (I have the original mahogany with Alpha pads and the bass is insane - deep, loud, but also textured and controlled with no midrange bleed). And the N3 drives them well and loud (albeit not nearly as well as a dedicated amp). Of course at $500 (with the Alpha pads) they're not cheap, but then you get what you pay for.

Stereo only, up to DSD256. Only 3 of the tracks are available as DSD256, so I'd download in DSD64 to hear them all (you'll struggle to hear a difference between the two, especially on the N3). Also, if you're using the N3 as a DAC, it only supports up to DSD128 in DAC mode.

Hi I have downloaded (256 bit) and saved inside the N3 , initially when I play the first song it worked but suequence now all three songs can't play with file not supported ..
I found the "problem" ,because when I connected the N3 with bluetooth headphone it will show "file not supported"

Did you download the stereo or multichannel versions? The N3 doesn't support multichannel DSD files...
