So avgearshop does not have the N3 listed on their site yet despite telling me they would have stock today. If there is only one Cayin distributor in Canada how could a tiny store like headfoneshop get stock so much earlier than two much bigger dealers like avgearshop and headphonescanada.ca? They are all located in the greater Toronto area so they should get stock about the same time.

AVGear already had some stock on their amazon store. May want to check that out too

I dont like Android based stuff!! Im an apple guy, but as I know it is impossible to create an iOS based DAP (apart from Apple) I like those custom operative systems created with passion and love. Whats the point of a Android based one? I know, a lot of capabilities due to Android features.... but whats the point? if I would want Android I would buy any cheap smartphone as a transport and I would better put my money in a good dac/amp like mojo.

just my very personal point of view

waiting my red N3... it has to travel the whole America continent to arrive to my home
I had to wait several weeks for red, but it finally arrived and loving it! Also had to wait for it to cross entire US back to rainy Pacific Northwest

Thanks for the tip. I know they also sell on ebay.ca typically at a lower price than they show on their site. I guess they could have committed their early stock to amazon.ca since they may get more sales via amazon than their web site. I was thinking about stopping by the store today to take a look at the N3 since I was going to be in the area. But when I saw they had nothing listed on the site I decided not to bother. It kind of makes me wonder what they would have said had I gone to the store today.

I wanted red too! But Amazon's black color of same day delivery got me.....
But red looks so good!

well, people here are having several daps, may be you can have the red too

Glad you like your N3. I am quite confident that if someone managed to get alone with the "old-school UI", the N3 is definitely a lovable DAP at $149.

Andy can't do that :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:, I am a small potato in Cayin and hardly the brain beyond all these wonderful engineering creations. We are working on two new DAPs right now, and one of them is Android based, it won't be classified as i5 mk2 but we'll retain some of the i5 design/features in this new DAP.
Andy,

Interesting, given I'm still noticing sound quality issues with the N3. I ordered (hopefully) improved earphones yesterday and will see how I get on with those instead of the museum piece I use right now.

What is the timescale for release of the i5 replacement?

If customer are buying, we have no plan to discontinue i5 for the moment, I think we can have more then one Android DAP in our lineup.

Can't tell any date until I get my hand onto the first engineering sample that is good enough for audition evaluation, we can't project a reasonable date until that.

Hi guys, I seem to have stumbled across an issue with my N3. Every now and then when I connect it to my Mac (both Mini and MacBook Pro), it either appears (the SanDisk TF shows up as a removable drive), or it doesn't show up, or it shows up then disconnects (and the Mac complains that I removed it without ejecting, which I didn't). On one or two occasions it didn't show up at all, and instead the N3 screen went to an animation of the battery charging up instead of the usual 'USB connected' screen. This is very intermittent, and I need to unplug and replug, or switch off and replug, or even turn the USB-C connector over and replug. Eventually it works fine, only to fail again the following time. So wondering if anyone had these issues (with either Mac or PC), and if you think it could be a cable issue or an N3 issue (or a Mac issue - although I doubt that).

EDIT: N3 just disconnected while copying files across to the SD. This is worrying to say the least. Could cause all sorts of corruption problems. Caused Mac Finder to hang, had to reboot the Mac. Interestingly it's only the data connection that seems to die - the N3 keeps happily charging itself even though it can no longer be seen by the Mac.

I haven't seen this on my N3 with my box. But, a lot of times, random USB disconnects isn't caused by cables or connectors - it's the port isn't capable of sustaining the current required by the device. There's quite a few motherboards with "weak" USB ports, weak power supplies, or poor design that has caused this, not just with DACs, but other devices such as external hard disks or USB wireless dongles.

On my box, the on-board USBs are only used for lower powered devices, such as my keyboard, Wacom tablet, card readers, scanner, and label printer. All of my high power devices are connected to an add-on NEC chipset card that has it's own internal Molex for additional power to prevent dropouts. Before I added the cards, I would get an occasional dropout when I had 4 or more bus-powered USB external disks attached to the onboard ports.

Hmm, that's interesting. Will try on my iMac as well. Haven't had these issues with any other device that I can recall, even high capacity USB 3 hard drives, but then this is my first USB-C device. Let's see if anyone else has had similar issues, or if Andy can look into it from a hardware perspective.

What's strange is how intermittent it is. Sometimes it doesn't pick up the N3 when I connect it, other times it's fine. First time I plugged it in it was perfect, transferring 85GB of files in just under an hour with no issues.

How prophetic. Cant turn it on now regardless of angle of power bottom. Reset doesn't work either. Ready to send this thing back. The one function that should work without issue doesn't work. :frowning2:

I take no joy in prophesy.
