Well, lets's check this out:

Spotify:

By the way, one of the most popular music player just announced its Android version, I have a test run on that immediately:

I didn't know the Volume control page can overlap on the playback screen like this, cool!

Forgive my ignorance but with Spotify, will we eventually have an issue as they update the app to android 6 or whatever, while the i5 stays on 4.4?

This "eventually" I would presume is in the ballpark of 10 years... maybe then you'd want a new player? <<---- this is not an official Cayin answer

Andykong, will i5 be "dual boot" similar to FiiO X7 which has Android boot and Pure Music boot? I'm really hoping the i5's music app makes more sense than the X7's music app. Can't use that X7 music app without getting seriously frustrated with the wonky GUI...

i5 does not have dual boot design, we are doing our best to optimize the player as one complete package, all functions should be presentable and useable when the DAP hit the retail shop.

If i5 retains N5's sonic character I'm going to be a very happy camper!

The i5 should retain a lot of the N5 sound signature because the DAC and analogue circuit after that are largely similar. The biggest audio circuit different between i5 and N5 are the availability of balanced driven 2.5mm headphone output. :beerchug:

Do you guys know what version of Android it is running and if it will support Apple Music as well?

The i5 is based on Android 4.4.

By apple music if you refer to ALAC and AIFF, then we support both in our DAPs: currently the N5 and N6 and the forthcoming i5 will have no problem to playback these format (upto 24/192 at least, not sure if 384kHz is supported by i5, have to check that out later).

Andy, should I assume that as soon as you turn the volume knob that volume control screen appears on display?  Then, can you swipe the volume up/down for a faster adjustment or do you have to tap +/- keys for one step at a time adjustment?  Or can you do both?  Also, will there be an easier way to get to volume swipe control within touch screen with one hand operation (without hw volume pot)?

Indeed, once you are at the volume control screen, you can increase volume by swipe up/down or left/right for quick adjustment and using the +/- keys for fine adjustment. You can interchange among turn (volume knob), swipe and click freely while you are at the volume control screen, but the screen can only be activated by the volume knob at the moment (at least for the native player).

Oh wow it works. But again if you wanna use 3rd party music app all the time, that means you have to navigate through the "Third Party Applications" everytime, right? Since the i5 boots directly to the Hiby stock app when turned on. Except if the i5 could set the 3rd party music app as default app for music... But I don't think it will.

I think you dreamt it because in reality Andy said $499. It begins with FOUR HUNDRED ...

The i5 will boot into a screen that function like the "My Computer" in File Explorer, it will have all the "music source" (internal memory, TF, Dropbox, LAN, OTG, etc) right in front of you. If you pick your music file from these "sources", you'll invoke the native HiBy player. We do not allow user to change the native player association right now (and we didn't plan to change this). We can make the third party application icons more accessible in the future if this become a popular options among our users, will observe the market response closely and make sure the needs are well taking care of.
