Can you use Google Play Music and stream on this? Where have people been buying them?

Yes, I put Google Play Music on the Pacific Northwest tour i5. Worked just fine for me with the previous OS. Hopefully it works fine with the current OS. I'll find out once it returns to Oregon...

If you're in the US, you can buy it from Andrew at MusicTeck.

wishing there is a play all button / add all to now play list at the folder section to start playing every music including the sub folder.

or is there an android app to do

something like foobar2000 desktop, where you clicked on the main folder and all music in the folder (including sub folder) will be loaded in the now play list (tried foobar2000 android don't work)

I'm noticing that browsing by folder does not sort numerically very well.

My albums are in folders labeled [date] - album name

And yet they are often out of order. I've never seen a DAP mess that up. Browse By Folder is supposed to be the ultimate fool-proof system.

My unit still seem to drain the battery fairly quickly even after doing the full battery calibration.
Unit was left paused on a song in standby. Wifi is turned off.

The standby battery time of i5 has a very mixed report.

i5 will go into hibernation after idle for a few minutes, the machine should feel cold at this time, and you can standby for one full day with only 1% drop in battery once i5 go into hibernation.

When you notice a battery drain problem during standby, touch the DAP and if you feel warm instead of cold, that means some process is still on-going, the MCU does not go into idle and therefore system will not hibernate as planned. There can be multiple reasons for this, we are still investigating the issue but you can try out the following options.

Press and hold the play/pause button at the right side panel, i5 will terminate the playback screen and go back to Home screen, left the player idle and the player will hibernate. This is becoming my standard practice when I unplug my headphone from the i5.

If the problem was caused by a third party application, go into App Driver (Sweep from left to right to bring out HiBy menu and go into Third Party Application option) and use the Task killer to terminate all on-going applications.

Thanks. I will try that. For now I have my unit completely turned off when I am not using.

Not sure if this will help those who have the 30:00 bug.
PS My unit before that already already had the 30:00 bug solved since v1.8.

I just now tried to do a full wipe/factory to see if it will resolve the battery drain issue.
After restore complete and the settings screen came on to select language etc, when I select Kuala Lumpur as time zone the 30:00 bug returned.

I did a restore again a second time but this time I selected the default time zone (the first selection) and played on the Hiby player. 30:00 bug was gone.
After that you can reselect region you require as per normal from your settings.

@kel77

Great! I had the 30:00 bug also on my Android phone. Using network provided time zone. I changed to manual selection, used HKG time, then uninstalled and reinstalled the HiBy-app. 30:00-bug gone.

Trying on the i5 now. But obviously has something to do with region or time zone settings.

UPDATE: Factory reset on i5, choosen HKG as time zone and the 30:00-bug is gone also.

Great that kel77 has figured this out somehow. Thank you for your efforts!

@Andykong

obviously for some odd reason the HiBy app does not like the Singapore time zone or regional setting.

I believe this is something you can work with for next updates (together with the HiBy people).

2nd Update: I set the time on my phone back to "network provided" and the 30:00-bug is back.
So it really is connected to the time zone settings somehow.

This is great discovery, thanks to kel77's contribution, solve a mysterious completely.

No wonder we cannot replicate the problem in our factory, will notify HiBy about this interesting bug.

Would anyone be willing to do a test using Soundcloud and/or TuneIn to see if there are any problems about streaming with these two apps and i5?

Just tried them. All good.

Thanks all999, I was occupied by the i5 Tour and preparing a Taiwan Show, didn't get around to handle customer query promptly, your helping out is most appreciated. :beerchug:

Any information about the Android OS version 5+ on the Cayin i5?

i5 is running on a customized v4.4 Android, we do not have any plan to upgrade the i5 system to Android 5.0 Lollipop at the moment.

Ok continuing my use of my own Cayin I5 to complement my previous comments:

a) Streaming as long as I am close to a wi fi my streaming experience is good
b) Offline behaviour works also
c) I have updated to firmware 2.0 and the subtle lag has dissapeared
d) No I can control Spotify for example from the external controls while the device is locked. This was buggy in version 1.8
e) The active task killer is closing all 3rd party apps after 1 hour or so of continue use. But this is typical for Android devices coming out of China, including smart phones ( ZTE, Xiaomi, etc). I have not been able to find how can I disable this, in the phones usually is buried under Settings/Power/ Management
f) I seen an improved battery performance

So I had received the world tour invite to review the Cayin I5 , but this coincided with a trip to Asia and took the plunge and purchased a Cayin i5.

I wanted to post some of my thoughts. Several of these items were shared with Andy. However I will give my overall thoughts:

Why did I Purchase:
Maintain a separate device to hold all my music, my own files plus all of the offline content from Spotify or Tidal. I do have smartphones with create audio capabilities like HTc 10, ZTE Axon 7 and LG V20 ( replacing a V10)

Why Cayin i5:
After owning a Pioneer and Onkyo, I sold to buy other gear. As an active listener have always focused on Android based players as these allow for an enhanced music discovery by direct access to online services like Spotify and Tidal. But always look to stay below $700-800.

Perspectives:

After 3 weeks these are random thoughts
The device has a good size, weight and form factor that really function wells to carrying in your pocket while on the move. The screen is a 4".  Without a case the screen size works well, however when using the case it becomes cumbersome, as to access the different screens you have to swipe left and right.

Lock screen will show the time and what track is playing

Once you turn own the device you have a main landing page that that shows storage availability, LAN connection. Moving left with a swipe you can access settings and google play store plus any installed apps ( Spotify,Tidal, etc), moving right you get to the on board music layout ( artist, album, etc)

Swipe down and you can get to a series of settings. Comparable to other Android devices, settings are limited. For example: Every time I plug a set of headphones the music start playing, which is fine, however I wanted to avoid this but could not find the setting as can be located in other Android units

Overall use is pretty easy and simple to follow.

Due to the screen real estate the font is pretty small in size, for example it was quite a challenge to figure out the shuffle button . Under music you can see  the organization on alphabetical order but due to the size of the A,B,C,D,etc its pretty difficult to see.

Currently using firmware 1.8 and have found it to be laggy at some times. I have everything stored on the micro SD external card and as such I think the Read/Write of the OS may be creating this.

The performance of the unit is a combination of device size ( battery module capacity size limit)  and Android 4.0 ( one of the less loaded version but also not the most efficient)

Overall UI is dark with orange colors for fonts, etc. The screen dark background is fine but becomes a problem in locations in which you have a lot of light. My assumption is that design approach is for purposes of  conserving or extend battery time. It may be worth a future update that could allow for a light background as it would really facilitate the viewing

Wi Fi power is a challenge. I need to be within 25 ' from the router. But I can live with it for now. However if you stream a lot that may be an issue. Using a wi fi analyzer app, the power of the wi fi radio is not that high, again I think this is associated to power conservation. With WiFi On and listening my battery can go from 100% down to 60% after 3-4 hours of use. With WiFi off and active listening I can extend this to 6-7 hours.  With WiFi Off and no use, may battery can go from 100% to 75% after a day

Spotify, Tidal, etc are great applications for music discovery, etc and allowing them to live in the DAP are great. Offline option from these services is also an extended feature of your DAP . However I find that the hardware buttons and software screen of Cayin do not work with these apps. Meaning I have to press power/swipe/go to app front controls to change music ???

Use of type C is a great choice which allows for faster charging and as such maybe screen and wi Fi could be revisited. Plus we all carry external battery packs to charge our gear on the go
Sound signature is fine and I have not encountered any hiss issues, even using a HUM Pristine which are sensitive.

What I would like to see in the future:

a) Light UI
b) Additional home screens or another way to represent some of the smaller icons as they are not 100 easy to see
c) Maybe some tweaks to the wi fi power to improve its range
d) Additional settings to control launch options (for example headphone plug in)
c) Drop down menu show be a 2 step drop down. The first one should give multiple music settings and a second drop would show all of the additional settings
d) Somehow there is an issue to control Spotify or Tidal if device is locked and playing music
e) If Spotify updates the library while you are using the device , spotify will close. Its not an app issue
g) A rubber case with less bezel may help handling

Will continue to test and advise

All, I have received a few PM's and would like to advise:

a) The unit does not get warm on extended use or under charging which is good if you have a battery pack charging the unit
b) I have not used a separate amp like a Mojo. I try to keep it portable
c) Handling of the buttons when in the pocket is pretty easy as the volume knob gives you a sense of direction
d) Installed firmware 2.0 today and will check any improvements during the week
e) I did check the OTG capabilities and it works
f) The device uses USB Type C, but charging speed seem to be limited as it does charge as fast with a Quick Charge

Ok continuing my use of my own Cayin I5 to complement my previous comments:

a) Streaming as long as I am close to a wi fi my streaming experience is good
b) Offline behaviour works also
c) I have updated to firmware 2.0 and the subtle lag has dissapeared

I want to thank darveniza for his detail impression and regular update, this is very helpful to fellow HeadFier who are interested in the i5, and his long term followup is something that can't be done in a Tour setting, a sincere appreciation indeed. :beerchug:

Every time I plug a set of headphones the music start playing, ..... You can turn off the "Breakpoint Resume" function, this is available in the Hiby Menu (wipe from Left to Right)

However I find that the hardware buttons and software screen of Cayin do not work with these apps. ...... We are working on this and hopefully will improve the touch screen support on these application. Unfortunately some of these third party application were designed with a mobile phone setting in minded, they don't expect to interact with hardware Play/Pause/Pre/Next button as these are not available in a mobile phone environment. By the way, on point (d) of your latest update, do you mean you can or cannot control?

i5 power management does not support Quick Charge, we don't have the Qualcomm chipset installed, so it is charging at 5v through the TypeC connector.

The Task killer in the third party application will kill all task except the native HiBy music player. I was under the impression that the Task Killer will only work on manual based, and there is no automatic or time based task killing function. I am surprised the Task killer will kill your active 3rd party application after certain time, I'll consult the Software Engineer to find out more about the Task Killer feature.

Have tested the Spotify app and performed a library update during playback, in my case the Spotify didn't terminated or halt, the library update can complete without any problem. Can you PM me some screen capture on this problem and I'll test the app in more detail.

Hi guys. I would like to ask how can we play one album only? Thing is after finishing an album it goes to the next album which i dont want to. I am playing from the album tab not folder btw.

Not sure if the play through folders worked?

I am also playing from Album view. I have set my playmode to loop though and it only plays a single album continuously. Never more than 1 album. Play through folders was on.

This is two directly different observation. imbasaurus said his i5 keep jumping to next folder and he wants to turn it off, but kel77 said he can't get the i5 to play through folders.

When I use Folder tab select and playback, I can turn on the "Play Through Folder" and it works as intended, and turn off the feature to stop it from jumping to next folder. Maybe the Album tab will behave differently? I'll check that out next time and confirm with you on this subject.

Is it normal for cayin i5 to automatically play music yhay is paused last before turning off..
So everytime i start cayin i5, the last music i pause always start playing by itself..anyway to stop this..

There is a function called "Breakpoint resume" in the Hiby menu (wide from left to right), turn it off and it should stop the memory function completely.

@Andykong
thanks for your commitment and keeping everyone updated.
I do have one bugfix and one feature request (for now  ):
- Acknowledgement that gapless playback is on your todo list
- The possibility to play from the Amazon cloud

Gapless is on the to-do list :beerchug:

If you were referring to the kind of support we have for Dropbox cloud (a dedicated entry point in the Home screen), that required a customized gateway and we do not have any plan for other personal cloud music service at the moment.
