Campfire - Solaris

Sorry for the offtopic lol.

If anyone is looking for a solution to keep our babies safe I think this one is great. Don't like the CA pouch, I prefer hard cases. The silica gel bag has orange indicators balls which turn green when need to be changed. Hope it helps someone.

Cheers!

How much more noticeable is the mid-bass?

@CL14715
Yeah I gotta agree here. The mid bass is definitely thicker. Switched to the WM1Z which is the usual player I use with the SE and it sounds quite thick. On higher output impedance sources it’s sounds more like the SE.

Check out @ryanjsoo's review of the Ara and review/comparison of the SE and 2020 on the Campfire "new IEM" thread...particularly helpful as he includes are FR comparison between the two Solarises (Solari?). I still find the biggest difference between the two to be the bump in the 2-5k range with the 2020's...otherwise they are very very similar (to my ears).

Are you referring to the SE or the OG? Looks like his comparison is with the OG

You’re right, I was mistaken/confused. Thanks for correcting me! Although my feedback, which is between the 2020 and the SE, stands (I saw a FR comparison between the SE and the 2020 a couple of days ago that looked by and large similar) :)

Can anyone help compare Solaris 2020 with Khan ? I am considering between two of these. I am not sure Khan is worth the extra price comparing to 2020.
and is SE still better ? I personally like the faceplate.

Yeah agree they are very similar :) the only difference I’ve noticed is with higher impedance sources. Lower the impedance, the fuller the bass, which is the same as the SE but with the 2020 the mid bass thickens up even further, which makes sense as it’s impedance is 5 ohms higher

Interesting. It's much thinner but has longer stem making the overall length same?? I am a little afraid IEM will still stick out like a bolt, or may be not.
Oh well, I shall know how this will fit by next week.
That picture is actually deceptive. The stem is actually quite several millimeters shorter on the 2020 than the OG. It looks longer from the angle of the photo, but from the other side, it actually extends less far out from the body of the IEM than the OG. The stem on which the ear tip sits (the part that actually goes in your ear) is exactly the same size as the OG and the black part of the stem is hot any thinner than the OG from what I can tell comparing them side by side and by feel in the ear. however, because of how they now sit in your ear and because the black part of the stem is shorter and the angles are different, at least with my ears the black part of the stem does not cause any rubbing or discomfort. On the OGs, if I pushed them in really deep I could feel the back part of the stem touching by ears but I don’t get that with the 2020s. The flip side of this is that I can’t push the 2020s quite as far into my ears as the OGs (seal is still perfectly good though).

I’m glad others, like you, are picking up on what I did with mid bass. My take was also exacerbated by the Fiio M11 Pro on low gain... not sure why but it turned low end and mid range dynamics into mud. High gain fixed this immediately, even at lower compensated volumes for the gain difference. Very bizarre.

Decided to bite the bullet and order the 2020, hope the overnight shipping is really overnight. With the smaller size I think it will be easier for me to get a good seal, the OG seal well, I just have to play around with them a lot to get them to seal right.

I call this a baby solaris. Thanks for sharing!

I don't get it.
1. Lower impendance = fuller bass
2. 2020 5 ohm more = thicker mid bass

Thicker mid bass = less full bass?

I'm no expert so I could be completely wrong lol... Hopefully someone more technical can assist here. But I have read up about it as I had this issue with my first IEM the Sony XBA-4 which had an impedance rating of 8ohms and needed a source with an output impedance <1ohm without the bass sounding completely rolled-off. I think this article explained it fairly well but I'm pretty sure there's lots of info within headfi somewhere:
