What should I expect when I get my andromeda?

High clarity & detail, Wide sound stage both horizontally and vertically, giving the impression of a 'holographic' imaging.

Textured details in the mid and high mid range. Theres a little bit of thickness to the details that I cant quite explain well.
The treble does not sound thin and almost sounds like they have 'body' to them but in the upper frequency range.

Good accurate & tight bass reproduction, but not something that punches super low or on the floor low.

Elegant mids with great musicality.  Fantastic speed and decay of higher frequency.

Overall, accurate, musical, highly detailed and very good imaging and texture in higher frequency range.

Edit: Forgot, Extremely great levels of air without sounding thin.

The Andromeda are totally quiet on my desktop setup but portable is indeed a challenge.

I ordered the iFi iDSD Micro Black Label today (yes, long name) since I read opinions saying it pairs well with the Andro (with zero hiss and warm, with emphasis on emphasised low frequencies) but haven't received it yet to confirm.

Should be here in a day or two.
Beowulf, I'm curious to hear what u think of the Andromeda/iDSD BL pairing, I really enjoyed it the short time I had them together. Do you plan to use it with a laptop?

iFi website states "Battery for on the Go." I was led to believe that the unit required an AC source to power, making it "less" than portable.

Yes, definitely. Ocasional laptop (and desktop use) is on my use cases. Along with couch with a phone... That's one of the reasons I shortlisted this model - in theory it might be an interesting jack of all trades (even if master of none).

The Andromeda is awesome but picky, so I'm curious to see how it will sound, especially on the sub-bass and in possible hissing and popping.

If they can drive the Z1R well, that will be welcome too.

Why did you let go of yours anyway? Review unit or time to try something else?

Yeah it was just a review unit. I left very impressed but didn't purchase because it didn't really fit a need for me. Versatility was the name of its game though.

Balanced with a slight mid emphasis comes to mind. After that there is excellent clarity and resolution. Very controlled bass response and excellent reproduction of mid and treble without harshness. Still retains just enough air. I find layering and soundstage differ among different tips.

Hi,

I am seriously considering the Andromeda, but concerned about the hiss.

My goal is to not complicate the setup, so what I need is a DAP with serious storage capacity, dsd, and no hiss with the Andromeda; or alternatively, Mojo and Poly.

Did such a DAP exist? I currently use a Sony ZX2 but but willing to upgrade for the Andromeda.
My current iem are Etymotic 4RXR (I also have the SennheiserIE800 and older Etys 4R-P, but I exclusively use the 4RXR for sound signature and isolation)

Any DAP recommendation or comment about the Mojo for Andromeda?
Cheers

I use iPhone6 to go with Andro and the hiss is barely noticeable unless runnig load's of background apps. Probably going to add an iFi iEMatch later.

Hiss is not the problem of Andromeda.

I think ZX2 would be good enough.
Maybe you pair with your ZX2 before looking for a new DAP.

I am using it with WM1A.

Definitely is the problem of andromeda. Pitch black background when I paired my flc8s with the same source. The andromeda is just too sensitive, so you need to add IEMatch for a clean background. ZX2 is the only source I've heard of that does not create hiss with andromeda.

I read a comment from one guy, who mentioned the iematch closes up the sound stage by quite a bit, as well as reduces dynamics - any truth in this? I wound't have though that it would have made much difference.

Of cause there will be difference. Even if you use adapter depends on the material uses, the sound will change.

If you use a very good cable but the adapter is a sub par one, will affect the sound more.
