No qp1r...just no ..is not even close to zx2. Just get wm1a.the chord with iematch works but I am not a fan of the iematch because it takes air away from the andromedas. It's better not to use it if you can afford not to. Get a zx2 or wm1a. You can also try to find an alo cdm....sounds really nice

What about QP1R is? It had no micro details and compression in micro dynamics. The io is almost 0, but still manages to sound thin. It tries to be so clear, the sound is too clean and distilled and not realistic. I makes the andros sound wispy and plastic, not to mention a lot of hiss with the device plugged in. Soundstage is wide but has no depth and bass extension and treble extension, though very far reaching is uncontrolled. The bass is very quick and sharp in attack but very one note. I had both and tried the qp1r because people kept hyping it so much here with the andromedas. It just is not a good match

In today's term, it is hard to argue against the Sony WM1a in that price range. The only other dap that is worth looking at may be the DX200 but have to wait for impressions to come out.

Just to understand better, could you explain more about how it has no microdetail, but sounds "too clean"?

Another head fier decent Levi posts mirror mine. Also Steve Rochlin posted also qp1r biggest weakness is compression of microdynamics and shading and calls zx2 "the king". Also Duncan owned both and said qp1r extension is not controlled, albeit far extending. As a professional cellist, I can't really say any music coming from the qp1r sounds realistic. People may call it uncolored or neutral, but it's actually sterile and flat. Like I can't hear differences in vibrato, air, and all the nuances and variation. Just a clean distilled sound. Also had a chance to compare qp1r with a lot of high end dacs and amps with the andros and none of them had the qp1r tonality. Tonality was really to thin, light and not holographic...though it's unfair. Hope that answers all your questions and clears my rights on qp1r. I hope many zx2 and wm1a owners can attest to the andros as being one of, if not best pairings.

Are folks picking up the WM1A from Asian sources? I'm interested in this if for no other reason than true balanced output. Though I'm going to have to figure out how I'll pay for grad school next year. I honestly hardly listen to my personal audio much at all lately. But I'm sure I could justify picking up another DAP. For the record...my current set-up is pretty much end game as far as I'm concerned, unless it's a jump into a balanced output rig. Other than a wonky UGI on the QP1R, I still have doubts about finding anything that I would be happier with. Especially considering how much it costs to tweak even the tiniest difference (Not necessarily "better") out of track once your equipment has hit this level of performance.

Please keep this thread on track. One of the posters asked about possibilities with a budget for the Andro and a DAP...please limit your comments to constructively give the peep recommendations...arguing back and forth about the possibilities is not constructive here. PM the poster if needed with your choices...
Thank you.

Lol. The Lyra 2 is definitely on my list as is the Vega. The Lyra (from reviews) seem to "share" similar characteristics with the Nova. Bills first, audio second...
Cheers.
