full show report

ALO Audio and Campfire Audio

The Vega, Dorado and Lyra II

 The Vega is deep and full sounding. It has excellent clarity and sound stage. The bass hits but is also clean, tight and fast.

The Dorado is deeper, and has a medium v shaped signature. Bouncy and energetic. It has a good weight to the sound. Fun but still CA smooth.

The Lyra II is more flat...in a sense, it has more mids, warm, even and great instrument separation. Full with an excellent low end.

In terms of sound signature to my ears (And Ken confirmed I was pretty much on the Ball - excuse my pun).
Vega = XXX
Dorado = XxX
Lyra = XXx

The new Continental v5 was present also and has many fans on Head-fi

 A gorgeous gold Rx

The new 8 wire cable that ALO/CA is bringing out in a variety of configurations.

The Litz is a 4 wire.

The new cable is an 8 wire cable, 4 silver and 4 copper. It has a bigger sound, more low end and a larger sound stage.

(I had some more notes here but they are a bit garbled so I will check with CA).

Some of the older crew of the multi armature variety from Campfire Audio.

VE (home of Monk earbuds) sells every possible adapter combination for $5: https://www.veclan.com/engappliance_sel_one?eng_ApplianceVo.eac_id=4 - select 2.5mm TRRS to 3.5mm BL and you are set!  Regarding good amount of gear, unfortunately it's HiFiMAN standard, used in their daps, which only been adapted by GeekOut and Cowon (in Plenue S), as far as I know.

What's BL stand for? Will that work in the Sony ZX2 from a 2.5 balanced cable?

BL - balanced, in this case a single 4-pole TRRS plug.  Not familiar with ZX2.  I know their portable amps have dual 3.5mm trs connectors for balanced HO (like in Pono).

@ExpatinJapan : Fantastic report, Damon!  Any side by side shots of Andromeda and Vega to show the difference in shell size?

Thanks for publishing the link - I was dead set to pick up a Fidue A83 balanced cable after a tip you have in another thread (IT03), but spotted this on the CFA chat and now have some Monk Plus and a Hifiman to 2.5mm adapter heading to the UK so I can use my Fiio 2.5mm balanced cable with my MMCX iems.

Must admit, the new Campfire cables do look very tempting, but I can see one of their newer models being in my future as some point (finances permitting), so may work my way up to one of Ken's premium cables art the same time if and when I take the plunge!

Dorado unboxing.

In the Campfire Andromeda and Nova thread but people were curious about the size differences.

The sizes of the other  new models are the same as the Dorado (from what my eyes saw).

Sharing a comparison with Oriolus MK2 I did via pm yesterday.

I think Oriolus is slightly warm due to the midbass bloom, while maintaining good air, smoothness and clarity for the mids and treble. It's open and spacious and makes for a great relaxing listen. It's more laid back compared to Andromeda.

As for the Andromeda, it's a different presentation. It's more neutral and immediate, and has a very 'live' feel... You feel like you're in the studio with the artists. Bass is quick and goes deep with a slight midbass bump, but decays faster than Oriolus, definitely BA-sounding. Mids are tuned more for clarity rather than sweetness, male and female vocals sound clearer and more energetic than Oriolus. Treble is clear, sparkly and not harsh, very good balance between smoothness and detail. Stage-wise, it's a bit smaller than Oriolus because of the energy, but separation and air is very good bcos of the faster, thinner notes.

As to what I think, Andromeda is the better all-rounder because it's more neutral and fits nearly all genres. Oriolus is a more romantic listen, excellent for vocals and slower music, but not fast enough for hard rock and metal. They are both at the same tier, and both are excellent choices.

anyone compared the Andromeda to the UERR?
i hear that, despite the UERR being 'neutral' it is far from it:
very musical, balanced and has very good bass (but not overly done)
...just wondering on more specifics on how their sound sigs differ from one another.

scroll to sound comparison section (on the 2nd page of my UERR review): https://twister6.com/2016/10/24/ue-uerr/ , and indeed it is rather neutral (bass quality over quantity).
