1st post
im looking for my first pair of quality headphones
i can spend around 100-150 and will be using it for mostly gaming sometimes movies
 
im using asus xonar dx 7.1 soundcard
 
 
 
 
p.s. noob question: does attaching the headphone to the soundcard directly or attaching it to speakers have any difference in sound?

My first pair was some Grado SR-60i's.  I gotta say I don't regret that purchase at all.  You could technically get a bit higher on the Grado ladder for your budget, but I'm not sure I would get anything above the SR-60 until the SR-225.
 
One thing I do wish I did from the beginning was consider used gear.  It's a great way to stretch a budget if you aren't as finicky about having everything brand spankin new.

Well, paired with your Asus card with Dolby Headphone, I don't think the AD700s can be beat for raw soundstage and positioning power at their price.

I like my Audio Technica ATH-AD700s,but their bass is clear but light, the ATH-A700s should offer more bass
