Do you guys bother with the case?  I'm debating whether I should keep it on since there are front and back protectors and the aluminum seems to be of good quality.

 
I never take mine off unless is to remove the microsd. I know I will never forgive myself if I get even a tiny scratch on any of my portable electronics. More so for my AK100ii as it's the most expensive at almost $800.

Except that the X3II is $300 cheaper. 

 
But it is sleek and pretty, though. Looks like a blend between the Cowon iAUDIO 10 and the Cowon Z2, and coated in metal. Nice.

You sound like you know something we don't. Between this and the AK380 thread, I'm beginning to suspect that something new is about to emerge. Any details?

I think the case is incredibly tacky for such a well-designed product, so I just use the screen protector. 
 
Realistically, I'm never going to sell the device, so I don't care if it gets a scratch or two (though I do baby it). 
 
What could I get for it in a year or two? Not very much. Even if I get something else, I'd rather keep the AK120II as a backup than sell it for a relative pittance. Also that means I don't have to be paranoid about scratches and whatnot.
