Bowers & Wilkins PX7 noise-cancelling over ear headphones

I have tried resetting the headphones..turned them on before putting on my head. And after some time the sensors stop working..doubt it had anything to do with bluetooth signals

when the sensors stop working, did u feel if its warm or probably there is sweat while the heaphone is still on? I live in tropical country , I notice the sensor stop working during when its warm and a bit of sweat. I am just guessing if that could be the case.

I have a question - I’m strongly considering buying the PX7s to replace B&O h9 iii. I like the h9s, but they don’t really excite me like my old PXs did; they are very quiet and quite restrained, and the noise cancelling is so-so, multipoint is not great either.
Any thoughts? Are the PX7 a more up front, immediate, engaging listen than the H9s?

Hi all, Just register in this great forum to give my two cents about the B&W PX7 that I bought last week.
I had some concerns because I read a lot before I buy a product, and not all people liked the PX7. I know it's impossible to please all, so I went and bought it anyway. It ticked the most boxes in paper I was after.
Now the results:
1. Sound quality
Bluetooth: 4.5/5.
It will depend really the source of your files. If you have a free Spotify account or listen any other "low" quality tracks, you will notice the bad encode. That's not PX7 problem, its the opposite, it is good enough to detect low quality encoded tracks. Still they sound amazing from my pixel 4 in Aptx Hd connection with FLAC tracks using Foobar.
Cable connection:
- 3.5": I will give 2/5, because it gives me a "hooooo" sound if the volume is more than 40% with no sound playing. I've not that problem when connected to Usb-c cable or Bluetooth (Thanks god for that or I had to return them, the sound is really annoying ).
- USB-C: 5/5. It's really great the sound that comes from the cans using the Usb-c connection. the sound is more precise and more spacial. You only notice if you are looking for it. The difference is not that large, but it's there.

2. Comfort: 5/5.
I use them 4 hours in the morning and 4 hours in the afternoon. They are very comfortable. This was a worry of mine, they passed with flying colors for my ears. I've small ears, BTW. You will not forget that you have the headphones, but you will notice that you have a super smooth leather in touch of your skin.

3. ANC: 5/5.
Right now I've ANC off, just because the passive noise isolation is fantastic. In my office I don't need more than that. Tried the ANC in AUTO and asked my coworker to talk and scream to me. I didn't listen to a word. That's good enough for me. In a next plane trip I will update my score if needed. Till now it's more than enough.

4. Connectivity: 5/5.
My Pixel 4 didn't recognized the PX7 at first, I was worried, restarted the Pixel, after that it paired in a couple of seconds. I blame Pixel for that.
It pauses the music when you remove them from your head to listen to someone, that's a great feature and for now it works great.
Never lost a connection moving around with them also.

My other cans are:
AKG K550 used at home in my computer connected to a ES9023P DAC.
On the move I use my B&O Beoplay E8 also wireless.
I used Sennheiser IE6 before and NuForce Primo 8 after them.
They all give worst sound than PX7 (AKG k550 I need to test it more vs px7. they are really god cans for the price.)
Connected to my TV I've B&W 600s series 5.1 set connected to my Denon AV.

I studied on an professional music school from the age of 6 till 14. Never left the music passion, and always tried to have a good dac/sound as far as my money let me to have.

Hope this helps someone as other reviews helped me.

Regards,

Joao.

Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with B&O h9 iii but as an owner of PX7s I have to say that these are amazing cans with incredible soundstage for a pair of closed headphones and they produce rich, very detailed sound. B&W PX7s are much more comfortable than previous PX version and they have better noise-cancelling (even when set to high the quality of sound is amazing) so I highly recommend testing them :). With PX7s it's a great fun to listen again to your favorite albums (in my case these are Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, King Crimson and lot of other prog stuff) just to experience the level of details that is non-existent when using other ANC headphones. In my opinion there is also a noticeable improvement in sound quality after ~50-60hrs of warming up (I had the same experience with B&W PXs) but they sound great even right after the unboxing .

Hi
I agree all of the above, just like to add, PX7 are slightly more bassy than my other BW cans P7 & P5 (Both wired)
PX7 sound very bassy but after burning them in it it mellows which is good, the sound quality is excellent , soundstage amazing and you can hear every instrument just like the highly rated P7s and go very loud I have not really gone past 5O% indoor listening ( no sound leak complaints from the wife when I listen in bed)
Very comfortable when listened over a few hours but however the pads get slightly warm which effects the wear sensors (check previous posts)
ANC very good indoors not really tested outride. but will this week commuting to work on the train
There are slightly big on my small head but my ears fit well inside cups for a great fit seal

I love my PX7s. I figure that a lot of the differences in the reviews are subjective. At this level and it seems the different reviews for different models, professional or otherwise come down to personal preference. At this price point, whatever you buy should be stunning, it's just finding what works for you.

I have just once experienced the pop/tick/click/bell in the left ear that some have mentioned. I agree with the assertion that it seems to be caused by the ANC. It was for about 15 minutes on a car journey where the traffic was at a particular speed and the ambient noise must have been causing auto switching between ANC levels. There was no audible change in ANC level but the tick was annoying to say the least. I'm certain it's not a physical/materials issue. As soon as I powered them off, the noise stopped entirely. Having read through here, I'm annoyed the only thing I didn't try was manually changing the level of the ANC. So far, it's not happened again.

Did they change how the headphones autoconnect in latest FW 1.1? Previously they connected automatically both to primary and secondary device (iPhone & iPad in my case) which was very convenient. Now I have to manually change connection in BT preferences.

I was just reading about this and the answer is yes. Info on the update is here: https://bowersandwilkinspkblivesite...s&kaid=kA02M0000010zg7&lang=en_GB&product=PX7
3. Bluetooth device reconnection preferences can now be adjusted via the Headphones app. On Bluetooth reconnection, your headphones can automatically pair to either the last connected device, or your preferred 'primary' device (requires Headphones app v2.3 or later).
I prefer the change as I would want it to connect to my phone first then let me choose what to connect to after that.

With PX7s it's a great fun to listen again to your favorite albums.

Thanks, I took the plunge, and bought them on special from Sevenoaks at £80 off, after emembering how much I loved to listen to the original PX headphones - they just seemed to bring a smile to my face more often than any other poetable headphones I’ve owned (including xm3, MH60, Studio Pro, and Momentum).

I agree with your comment about these being FUN - I’m not disappointed. These are just a supremely enjoyable listen for many genres. Bassier than the PX but still forward and controlled, and not scooped - so much fun. The B&O were more comfortable, and possibly more accurate, but much quieter, and just didn’t make me smile in the way these do - they were quite flat, and restrained. I can’t wait for my commute tomorrow to use the PX7 again. New favourites.

Bonus that the multipoint implementation is the best I’ve experienced in any Bluetooth headphones except perhaps AirPods; I find them very comfortable; the ANC doesnt impact the SQ at all and is plenty good enough; and I like the futuristic, understated look of them. Very happy, will be selling the H9 this week.

i had one issue which is that for a while the LED stopped functioning properly; that seems to have resolved itself after a reset and putting them on to charge.
