I had a mx150 aPs before. Although I cant test it with your track, I think it would sound quite flat too. I imagine the background noise in that track would also become fatiguing from the brightness

Yes definitely, quite harsh and a challenge even for Traillii. Through loudspeakers it's very different, another learning for me in this process!

Any other recommendations similar to LSG (or other albums from him)? Really enjoyed listening to that album last night!

Anything from Oliver Lieb for sure... this is a bit more chilled but a CD I often play still. Trance up to the mid 90s or so was excellent, I was less keen after but still some gems. I'll suggest a few more later, off out.

The Ambush is another of Oliver Lieb's monikers. This album is a gem and this track is stunning (all 17 mins)

For something a little darker - Spicelab

Sweet! I didn’t even know this music existed in the mid 90s! I was still stuck on Grunge and Classic Rock.
I assume the 1210 is a version of the 1200? one of the greatest decks of all time and still fetch a pretty penny.

Yeah the 1210 mkii was the model available when I bought in 94... incredible deck, built like tanks and made in Japan at the time. I still use for playing vinyl, haven't mixed in a few years though!

Off Topic - Turntable post...

Back in the late-70s, the dentist who lived next door to us, had a B&O Beogram 4000 Turntable, a Nakamichi Cassette Deck, McIntosh Pre-Amp, a pair of McIntosh Amps, a pair of Klipschorns, and a Klipsch Heresy (center channel). Their audio system sounded amazing.
.
I see that in 2020, Bang & Olufsen reintroduced the Beogram 4000c, by purchasing original model 4000 turntables from around the world, and re-manufacturing them, with an added internal RIAA pre-amp. The production run was limited to 95 units, in recognition of the company’s 95th anniversary. The Beogram 4000 was ~$275 in 1975, and the "new" 4000c is $11,000. :astonished:

Very cool, plus very expensive! I love vintage audio equipment, I'll buy a 1970s Marantz amp at some point...

If you look at my profile, you'll see that I've got an H.H. Scott 299C (built: 1961-1964) - Vacuum Tube Integrated Amp ( 11 tubes: (4) 12AX7; (2) 6U8 or 7199; [Split-load phase inverter] (4) 7591; (1) 5AR4 ). It was given to me 20+ years ago, and needs to be repaired / refurbished.

Very cool. I had a H.H. Scott 399 for years and I loved how it sounded. Finally traded it for a Sansui AU-111. Love vintage tubes

I did some a/b of Blur 266 mx150 vs EM5 today, very enjoyable and hard to call a winner. I focused on modern classical and chilled jazz - well officially its called 'spiritual jazz' but I struggle with that name!

Anyway, Blur definitely brighter which helps give a sense of space and realism, especially for jazz - fantastic timbre too so a feeling of being at a small, intimate jazz venue. EM5 did similar but I think the prize for timbre needs to go to Blur. EM5 on the flipside is warmer so more forgiving on the higher end of the register - I find the Blur harsh at times, but not often. I love the smooth signature of EM5, incredibly addictive. In terms of soundstage, not much in it but Blur definitely a bit bigger and as noted above, works really well for jazz. They are both excellent for ambient and modern classical but I'd choose EM5 as the winner here, the relaxing delivery is excellent for these genres and as a lot of ambient is electronic, EM5 I feel handles it better - but again, not much in it.

Still need more time, I've clocked up many listening hours on the EM5 over the last couple of weeks so a tough battle to knock it from that position. I do still prefer it, but time will tell as I get to know this Blur better. A clear enough conclusion however for now is they are certainly complementary and while EM5 might outshine on ambient, Blur will take the lead on 'real' instruments where the timbre and sense of space stands out.

266R testing in progress! Wong does note that since the insulation is clear, he cannot guarantee that the cable will not oxidize/green over time. His 1+ year old prototypes have shown no signs of greening though, which is a good sign!

Is that a replacement you're getting for your two broken earbuds?
