Try that amp combo with the Diana Phi...I finally got me a set of these. Initial impressions are these are tonally fantastic sounding. More to come.

Well... I think it is both. It’s not the pads that cause the warmth but the foam inserts. People have been playing around with them on other Beyers as well![]()
I think they have very different sound signaturesI like the 2.generation very much. Has anyone compared the 2 and 3.generations?
Over at the DT1990 people swap the stock foam for those that come with the Amiron wireless / TYGR R / DT 177X GO to tame the DT1990 highs a bit. That said, the foam will make a difference too, but I would not swap T1.3 foam with the one from 1990s because they are shaped differently (and so are the drivers)

Pads definitely definitely make a difference, and this is something that Beyers offer for other cans in their catalogue, where they give you 2 set of pads, one "analytical" and the other one "balanced". The 2 sets sound very different.

@kman1211 so it is a 3 parts equation…foam, pads, ring…is it?The foam is only part of the equation in terms of warmth. I was able to get the headphone to sound even warmer than stock without the foam. I’ve actually actually found swapping the pad mounting ring with the gen 2 ring changed the sound a lot.
Yeah, the T1.2 ring has a rubber ring on it for damping and it's a different shape, there is no feeding mechanism on it and thus also has less distance as well. The pads between the gen 2 and gen 3 sound distinctly different too. I also know the voice coil is different, the driver and capsule may be a little different too (would of have to measure to know for sure, I did see it was a different size than the gen 1's on a video where someone measured it but not sure about the gen 2), some different internal materials, etc. The gen 3 is physically more open than the gen 2 as well. Distinctly different headphones. The cable and driver baffle are the only things that are basically the same.@kman1211 so it is a 3 parts equation…foam, pads, ring…is it?
I am surprised to read that the plastic ring can be part of that
I see... I could compare the mounting ring of the DT1990 and T1.3 and they are identical, hence my surpriseYeah, the T1.2 ring has a rubber ring on it for damping and it's a different shape, there is no feeding mechanism on it and thus also has less distance as well. Ah okay so it's the same on the T5's. The foam is part of the damping on the gen 3's so it doesn't use the rubber ring. Honestly I heard a lot of good things about the T5.3. I love the T1.3 and it's my favorite headphone, I wouldn't be surprised if the T5.3 would be my favorite closed-back if I got a pair. Have you heard the T1.3?I noticed that while the T5.gen2 had a rubber ring in the mounting plate the new T5 does not.
T5 is a beast
Sadly no. After a good amount of time with the t1.2 I decided to go the planar route and found my end game with Kennerton. Their work exceeds that of Beyerdynamic imo and I haven't felt the need to look anywhere else since.Ah okay so it's the same on the T5's.
