Chord Mojo easily the best. It gets Warm when charging and playing simultaneously, but so do other Class A (Amps).

It is comparable to DAC's costing five times more and don't be fooled by the small size, just as good as a desktop device. Enough Power to drive HD800 and LCD's, no problem.

  Today my sound card died. Had a creative sound blaster something. I am currently using the mainboards soundcard and it sucks, I have to turn the audio all the way up to 100 and it's till not loud enough, normally I would listen at 12-35.
 
I need something new now. What would you guys recommend? A new sound card? A amp? If I buy a amp, what should I look for?

I use the Xonar STX. It is great for gaming and music. I bought it in 2012 and have it running with Windows XP/Vista/W7 and now W10. Works flawless ever since. I could drive all headphones I have or had including the HD800 very good. Right now my main can on the PC is the HD650. The DT1770 is also driven very nice. I tried some external USB cards, but this internal one works best up to now, it is always recognized by Windows as 7.1 device, USB cards have been only Stereo devices sometimes. So if you have a free slot for it, go grab an internal card.

This comes down to two questions:

1) How much do you want to spend?

2) Do you require "virtual surround sound," or is high-quality stereo acceptable?

I'll defer to the group. I'd definitely suggest getting a decent dac/amp in that price range, if you listen to more music than play games.

Also, I know you can get good deals on Amazon UK, because of the favorable exchange rate. I know VAT could be a factor in the EU, however.

If your computer can output an optical signal, you can consider an Oppo HA-2. I know the Dragonfly Red is also popular around this price point.

If you don't have much cash available at the moment, then I'd consider going low end prosumer audio. Something like this https://www.thomann.de/gb/steinberg_ur12.htm may well fill the gap until you can afford something better.

I use the original UR22 (no longer available) and to be honest it sounds fine and drives the DT1770 perfectly competently. From what I gather the innards of the UR12 are pretty much the same (it dumps one XLR combo input for a TR input) except the UR12 adds USB 2.0 audio class compliancy, meaning no drivers are required for Mac or Linux. Windows drivers are supplied with the unit.
