Beyerdynamic DT-1770: Product Info, Discussion and Impressions

Today my sound card died. Had a creative sound blaster something. I am currently using the mainboards soundcard and it sucks, I have to turn the audio all the way up to 100 and it's till not loud enough, normally I would listen at 12-35.

I need something new now. What would you guys recommend? A new soundcard? A amp? If I buy a amp, what should I look for?

What's the trick for getting the pads back on these? I pulled off the velour pads to rotate them, and I can't for the life of me get them back on. Wish they had that slick locking mechanism used on AKG headphones.

Happy guys living in Europe today...currently 318€ on amazon.de...

You mean by beepick? I get one of theirs, they are good indeed. No idea why it was that cheap.

Also, before you buy them make sure it is legit.

You see those two that want you to send  a email first? They are fake. I mean the one for 250 and 359. They want you to send them a mail first. Then after you purchase it on amazon they cancle it and send you a mail to buy it outside of amazon. You send them the money and never retrieve the product. So yeah, be careful with those.

Not all of those are fake, I got one from a store called beepick and it was legit.

You see that ring where you have to slide it in? At one point it's a bit deeper and allows you to easily slide it in.

Put your left thump over the opening of the ring, once the pads rim is in place to keep the rim in place. Then you move the pad with your right hand until it is fully seated in the notch.

Check the threads photos, there should be some that illustrate what to do.

You're right, the one I saw was probably a fake...

Thanks to everyone, for the information on re-installing the stock pads.

Question: Has anyone tried these with Alpha Pads? I'm assuming they will improve isolation, sound stage and bass response, although these headphones are *just right* bass-wise for my tastes.

1) Depends on your budget.
2) Entry level sound card worth the money spent: Xonar Essense ST/STX (200$). The point is that u get normal amp along with normal dac in one internal device to power HPs and your !speakers!
3) Amp/DAC for HPs only: new Schiit Jotunheim(500$) seems to become the "best under 1k$" or Magni2+Modi2 for 200$

Roland UA-55 Quad-Capture
Steinberg UR22
PreSonus AudioBox iOne
Focusrite Scarlett Solo

Your job is to look in specs for headphone maximum output level. It must be around 20 mW at 250ohm for DT-1770 to provide clean 115db of sound :) Cant tell u about their HP amps quality... I have only Xonar ST. Tested UR22 and it has decent SQ for sure, but cant compare as u need to a/b these things to make a proper decision.

Sound Blaster also has the X7, which is a nice device. It retails for $400, and is an amp, dac, Dolby 5.1 digital signal processor and can power passive bookshelf speakers as well.

If the extra features interest you, it's worth looking into.
