Same hear, Beyer all the way vs Senns or any other brands. Although the HD800 is something else. To me Beyers most bang for the buck is their mid-range to low end phones. I never had any disappointments recommending beyers to people looking for a phone at different budgets.
A friend of mine thought a DT315 was expensive after he heard how it sounds.
Exactly, I like Beyers because of the way I naturally hear sound, that is also why I'm not so keen on Sennheisers, not because I want to dislike them, and I guess, the same for most people, and as you say their mid range cans give great sound, are well made at a reasonable price.

The T5P's have a more neutral, 'flat' character with a more prominent midrange, and less lower bass than the 1770's. Vocals sound slightly recessed with the 1770's, and the 1770's have a 'V' curve to their sound signature.
In practice, I prefer listening to classical music and female vocalists with the T5P's, and the 1770's are more suited to rock & pop IMO.

did someone test the 1990 B-Pads on the 1770? I am just wondering if I should replace the velour pad with it's originals or with the
newer memory form pads.
I found 1770 much more comfortable than my Elear. I quite puzzled as to why it is so. The 1770 do have better headband but the earcups are not as deep. I'm a huge supporter of angled drivers as they provide better soundstage and comfort but somehow the 1770 works well for me. I find that the clamping force is strong if i align my ear to the center of the driver like how you would wear a headphone. However, the clamping force is way lower if i extend the headband bit longer and place my ear behind the center of the driver.
Comparing my Elear with 1770, what surprised me most is the soundstage size. The soundstage size of 1770 is quite close to the Elear. That really surprise me as the Elear is open back. Another closed back that I have , the Sony hear.on headphone, is much smaller as well.
For owners of HD650, just out of curiosity, how does the soundstage performance of 1770 compare to the HD650? Also, would the 1770 be an upgrade from HD650 in overall technicalities ?

I used mine with the Bottlehead Crack with speedball which should have an impedance of 120 ohms (no longer have the DT1770's). Had the RCA 5998 with domino plates and a Telefunken tube (forgot the model number and labels mostly faded away).
In comparison to the Magni, the bass has more bloom and isn't as tight. I didn't notice any difference in the mids from memory. The treble was a touch smoothed off, but the overall sound was a bit wider despite the smoother treble. I mention this because usually a brighter treble increases the sense and feeling of a "wider" soundstage.
I think I preferred them with the Magni as it just sounded more precise and analytical, while still being fun and punchy. I might just like a solid state sound.

Maybe the 1770 needed a solid state with 120 ohm - the sub bass is still tight, slightly more mid bass more slam, more mids - no roll off treble - (no shortcomings except maybe still too much subbass)
You might as well keep your SS amp and just use EQ to get DT1770 sound what you like. All the 120-ohm output impedance do is introduce distortion into the signal which changes the overall sound.
