Beyerdynamic Amiron Home (the new T90)

OK so I tried a couple of Chinese pads and these hybrid ones just raise my Amiron Home to GOD LEVEL. Really. They are that good:

They look pleather but look closely on the inside:

Hybrid velvet on the top and inside, pleather on the outside:

Twice as thick as stock:

What these pads do is add an amazing lower midrange and bass quantity while still retaining bass quality. This is the most speaker-like experience I have ever had. Imagine a strong crossfeed. It also noticeably improves some of the siblance issues.

If you like V-shape curves, like I think you do when you admire the Amiron Home, you'll love this. For pop, rock, metal, I just rolled my eyes in disbelief how good this is. It retains the stock sound signatue, and improves on it. Vocals are still a bit recessed like they used to be, and the instrumentals that were already good are now just mind-boggling. So engaging.

For future reference, I also tried the sheepskins from that same store, and from another store a pair of perforated pleather like the ones in some posts above.
The perforated pleathers also get my recommendation if you don't want to exaggerate the V-shape, but appreciate a small bass boost, tame the treble a little, yet take a significant step up in spaciousness. They sound very much like the stock pads, but with increased soundstage. The latter probably because the pads are twice as thick as the stock ones, so the driver is further away.

The sheepskins I cannot recommend at all. They add an enormous rumble in the lows, and exactly that: heaps of bass but with very poor quality, muddy.

I also tried the three pads out on my T1.2. Here, I can recommend the perforated pleathers for again the reason of balancing the bass and treble out a little. Interestingly, the hybrids just sound weird with bass bleeding into the mids. And again the sheepskins are just awful. I cannot recommend either of them.

In closing, those hybrid velvet / pleather pads just really draws me to my Amiron Home. More so than my T1.2. Wow.

Edit: I see that the store where I bought them originally now no longer sells them. These alternatives look exactly the same, velvet on the top and the inside, pleather on the outside: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001775567919.html

The Amiron Home is a much better headphone than the 770/880/990. Imaging, vocal presentation, instrument definition, soundstage depth, bass extension, bass impact, treble detail, and the smoothness of the overall sound are all vastly improved. You can listen to the Amiron for hours on end and never feel any listening fatigue.

How much of a step up from the 880/990 are these?
I would add that, I enjoy both my DT990 Pro and Amiron Home about equally!

I enjoy the DT990 Pro more for daily use but when I want a little extra something-something, I go with the Amiron Home! The later, has better midrange and bit better mid-bass push! Treble is sweeter on the Amiron but don't seemingly extend further than the DT990 Pro.

Honestly, I could stop at the DT990 Pro but glad I have both.

I have not heard the DT880 or DT770 or the newer models.

The DT990 is too harsh and too bright. There is a difference between treble extension and excessive treble sharpness/brightness within a particular range of frequencies. The mid treble 6-8kHz region on the DT990 is at least 4dB too forward. If you play music at moderate volumes and beyond, it is literally painful to listen to. It is harsh, grating, piercing, and grainy sounding. This is of course just my opinion. Others may think that the 990 sounds great, but I don't agree. The Amiron Home is a full step up in sound quality from the 770/880/990 in every way. Keep in mind as well that the Amiron Home is using the much better Telsa transducers.

The DT gets very sibilant when using them with analythical dac/amps. In the past I had the DT880/250 paired with a Fiio K5 Pro and it was very unlistenable when the sibilance and painful T kicks in. With a warmer dac/amp like my Klipsch Heritage dac, it's much better. Although I got the DT880/600 this time. 990 is pretty much overrated IMO. 880 and Amiron Home are underrated and yet they sounds very great.

The AH sounds indeed very good and it works very well with EQ if you want to reduce bass/warmth a bit. I like using -2,5db at 200Hz with Q0,8 personally.

@CTR640 how does the AH compare to the Meze 109pro?
If you want a honest answer: when using the 109 for a while and then switch to AH, it's very warmer sounding, bassy :P

I would go as far as saying that I like my AH better than my T1.2 for most genres, sans maybe jazz and classical.

Agreed, but with the DT-1990 (for me) for jazz / classical or other genre that benefit from a more detailed & analytical presentation.

How does the treble compare in smoothness and cleanliness? From the measurements the Meze 109pro treble looks more zippy. The Amiron Home is a bit bright but very clean and smooth.
The Amiron Home bright as in? It's one of the most smoothest headphone, it doesn't fatigue one bit and yes, very clean and smooth indeed.

The AH has an emphasis in the treble, as most Beyers have, but it's well damped and very smooth. It's also well integrated in the sound design so it doesn't stick out.
I didn't mean to criticize the AH, I was just curious how the AH treble compares to the Meze 109pro treble in quality not quantity. :-)
