Beyerdynamic Amiron Home (the new T90)

Yeah, I would say that's a good way to describe it. I listen to hardcore and metalcore, and while I love the Amiron, the energy of the DT 1770 is superior for heavier parts, but nothing beats the Amiron for the cleaner parts of the music. They are just great headphones.

Pad replacement update:
New pads come already attached to the ring and they include new disc-foams.
Replacement is quite easy: pull pads with ring > replace disc foams > press down new pads.
Pictures will follow when I get home.

We start with a pair with worn down pads

And buy new pads

Then we gently pull on the pads making sure the plastic ring comes off as well

Like so

Align the teeth

And put the new pad on, snapping the pads in place.
Don't forget to remove and replace the black foam-disc as well!

You end up with this

Enjoy :)

My Nightowl Carbon ended up selling, so I have just bought the DT 1770. It should be here in a few days. It is going to be very interesting to compare it against my Amiron Home. Thanks to kman1211 and JoshG1217 for offering feedback on their experience with the DT 1770 as well.

I also listen to a lot of hardcore/deathcore/metalcore and I find the Amiron great with those genres!

I agree, but the 1770s are a bit more energetic and in your face. The Amiron is smoother overall. I can listen to either and be very happy with the sound.

It as with these: https://www.amazon.com/Brainwavz-RO...d&qid=1554471115&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1

I prefer them. Harder to A/B against original pads, but the stock pads rest on my ears, while these do not. This also allows you to remove the piece of cloth that goes on top of the driver. From what I recall, it seemed to open them up a bit more and let the mids breathe a bit better, but that's from memory at this point. I recommend the upgrade.

I have both and the Amiron wireless. The Home is airer and has better mids, and is smoother overall. The DT 1770 has a more analytical sound. More sub bass, recessed mids, little harsher treble. I really like them both. I did swap the pads for brainwavz rounds pads, which are better and I pulled the foam pad out. I recommend that.

I can do more A/B if you want.

Did mention it here. Again, highly recommended. I use these in the gym, so I also applied a water proofing (made for shoes, but same concept) to the headband and pads. FYI, the XL rounds are just way too big and look pretty goofy

Wait, you use the Amiron in the gym? If so kudos! As a hi-fi enthusiast and personal trainer I am fascinated by what people use at the gym. Well not the Airpods and other dodgy gear obviously, but especially what Head-fiers use. I should start a thread about that. More probably it exists already :L3000:

I mostly use wireless iems from Nuforce, the well-tuned Be6i which rival and even beat a lot of entry-level wired gear. But sometimes I clip my ES100 to my shorts and reach for my $500+ wired iems. I absolutely get that you use proper hi-fi while working out and in fact applaud you for it. Too many people settle for low-quality crap in the name of convenience, and shrug it away as a compromise that is acceptable "for the gym". I'm like "what??" Just like people wear horrible clothes at the gym, because "it's just the gym", they'll be sweaty so it's fine to look like crap. At the gym you need to look as good as possible to yourself, it's a big part of motivation, so if there's one place when you need to dress nice this is it! Just like it's where you need the most motivation to reach for your fitness/muscle/endurance/whatever goals, so good sound quality is a must.

That said, while the head-fier in me gives you the thumbs-up, the personal trainer in me will point out that the ears are heavily vascularized, and as such a good place to dissipate heat, which is why I always advise for iems > headphones for the gym.

Hm. Well, that's not an EQ I have. I am doing this now on my zx300. The dt 1770 is bassier, a bit narrow and not quite as resolving as the Amiron Home, but it still sounds good--much better than xm3.

Switching back to Amiron home, mids are clearer and resolution is better accross the board. It does not have the bass impact of the DT 1770, but the bass it does have is more resolving. It's a lot more musical, but less impactful.

Switching back to the DT 1770-- the treble is a tad harsher and bass has a little more robustness to it that matters on heavier music. The vocals are less up front and feel a bit veiled in comparison.

Both headphones are great, but do different things with music. For heavy music, the 1770 are a bit more fun because of the bass impact, but the Amiron still sound good with that genre, and overall sound clearer.

How's Amiron Home via ZX300 output. I'm planning to buy a balanced cable to use ZX300 4.4

It's solid. I got a $50 KK cable on Amazon. On high gain, I have it on 56 for the level of loudness I want.

I have to max my 120/120 for stock cable on Zx300 SE, will try another cable. What is that KK cable you're using :D
