n-phect: As my review stated, Ed8s have more bass, both kinds than any other headphone I've heard (with quality). Slightly more than W1000x but way more than D7000.

Really? I don't hear the Ed8 as having "way more" bass than the D7000, in fact I usually bass boost the E8! I suppose you could say it's tighter/better quality, but not greater quantity?

Maybe your D7000 was faulty or my E8 is faulty lol.

i think if he is testing headphones and rating them, there should be no eq'ing going on from one to the next.

I guess he rated based on: (from his post)
  1. Bass-Ambient = Low hip/hop bass, or boom of a symphony orchestra.  Goal is deep and no distortion.
  2. Bass-Kick = Rock drum kicks, dance bassline kicks. Goal is to be clean, tight and high SPL so you feel it without distortion.

If those numbers are ratings that reflect his opinion of the quality (not quantity) of e.g bass ambient and bass kick, how come he said "Ed8s have more bass, both kinds than any other headphone I've heard"?

I interpreted that to mean the Edition 8 has a greater quantity of "ambient low bass" and "bass kick" than the other headphones he compared.

I don't think I've read anyone else say the D7000 has less bass quantity than the E8.

Me neither, IMO D7000 definitely has more bass quantity, even I prefer Ed.8's one. D7000's bass kicks hard too.

the Edition 8 was my favorite hi fi set, outside of the bass quality which was much lower than I would like to see in such an expensive set, I really miss it and pretty much agree with the review here.  It was the best overall performer yet in a closed back? Definitely a special set

Alice In Videoland – “Take Me With You” [Electronic/Pop…mule-like drum kicks, rock vocals and guitar]
*W1000x – Great bass. Neutral highs, a little boomy base
*Ed8 – Awesome bass. Nice kick. Lot less boomy, better imaging. Slight forward highs.
*D7000 – Awesome vocals. Bass has least kick. Also a bit boomy. Less than W1000x
                * T1 – Superb imaging. Suprising kick for open can bass. Vocals extremely detailed and smooth.

You are so awesome.

I own both W1000x and D7000 with JMoney pad.

In my opinion, D7000 sounded more natural in overall spectrum, the sound stage and imaging presented is more realistic than W1000x, where W1000x also present the sound stage smaller.

However W1000x has forwarded mid, thus for me it brings out the vocal and mid range that is more define than D7000, however the bloated bass and unnatural high of W1000x made the music stage unrealistic, you cannot imaging that you are there, or at least with difficulty doing so.

For sound stage depth are about the same. I liked the mids of W1000x very much, and so it goes to D7000 for the overall performance minus the mids.

What should I do? Will T1 cure my desire for perfection? I enjoy listening to JRock/Pop, and musical instrument of piano and violin. I am not using any amp currently, only a Pcio dac/amp but may likely go for SPL Auditor.

Thank you for any recommendation.

Ever thought of going A2000X? That thing sounds awesome properly amped, T1 also works well but the mids are not as sweet as the A2000X. A2000X will be a better choice if you listen to a lot of female vocals.

Well I own the W1000x and the T1.

I never thought that the W1000x had bloated bass until I spent a lot of time with the T1 and tried going back to the W1000x, first thing I notice was definitely that it does sound a bit boomy for some of the jpop I listen to.  I also started noticing a bit of sibilance with the W1000x.  The mids are probably sweeter on the W1000x due to the AT touch and going from that to the T1 would initially makes the T1 feel warm but once you've adjusted to it the tonal balance on the T1 wipes the floor with it and in the end I just can't help but reach for the T1 and shelf the W1000x again, not to mention when it comes to very busy recordings the W1000x seems to struggle a little.  Some will say the T1s are boring, but I find the overall tonal balance really hard to fault.  Mind you I think my general preference is going for an overall balance in tone rather than focusing on a particular part of the music so I've never been much of a fan of those AT cans which specialises in the mid-range (and why the W1000x is the only pair of ATs I ever bought).

Though you'll need a decent amp, not sure the pico will drive it properly.

The bass ratings for the D7000 seem off. I own both the D7000s and T1s and there is simply no way the T1s have the same or more quantity.
