GSMArena states the youth does have the audio power:
"All three phones come with some serious audio prowess. There's a total of three Texas Instruments OPA1612 amplifiers, a Cirrus Logic WM8281 codec for noise and echo cancellation to handle the input from the three mics, and a high-end Sabre 9018C2M DAC as found in the LG V10."

Price is around $300 they state:
"List prices in China are CNY 2,999 ($470) for the top-specced model with 64GB of ROM, CNY 2,499 ($390) for the 32GB version, and CNY 1,899 ($300) for the Youth version"

i got 32gb for $300 and we don't have any contract system here. Youth doesn't have that much audio power.. now i need to test LG v10 so i can give you guys a comparison..

Has anyone tested the audio capabilities of the Huawei P9 Plus?

Been eyeing that thing for a while. Am based in the Philippines and am interested in getting a better phone.

I'm getting the regular P9 at release here in Norway, but it's not shipping until first week of may. It's supposed to sound decent though, just not a powerful amp in it.

How about the LG G5 with their audio-dedicated module? Interesting, right?

Considering the module is about the price of a decent DAC (priced same as the HRT Micorstreamer here in Norway), it's not a selling point for me at least.

You're right. The price may be a deal-breaker for some, but I would like to get my hands on it and try it ~

No question here, the thing looks really interesting. I'm sure it sounds awesome to (considering the tests), and I can definitely see the convenience of not needing to carry around a dedicated DAC all the time. For me though the argument was more about, if I'm going to spend money on a dedicated module for the phone then I'm sure as hell going to want to bring it with me to my next device as well (even though you technically can do that with the B&O module I don't find it that attractive of an offering).

Either way, I would really love to test it as well simply because it exists (and who knows, there may be something to this modular system after all).

This specifications regarding the bands I have found on the Lenovo Webpage: http://www.lenovo.com.cn/product/50975.html

2GGSM:Band2,3,5,8 3GWCDMA:Band1,2,5,8 3G TD-SCDMA:Band34,39 4G FDD-LTE:Band1,3,7 4G TDD-LTE:Band38,39,40,41NW (2555MHz-2655MHz) CA:B3_C/B7_C/B38_C/B40_C/B41NW_C(Cat6)/B39+B41NW(_C Mean Intra CA)

These specifications differ to those of GSMarena. Specifically, the band 20 is missing. Since I come from Germany and here band 20 is very common, this is a shame.

But what I still wonder (and still have not found an answer) is whether the version Vibe X3 Youth has the same audio chip set.

On the Lenovo website both versions are advertised the same in terms of audio.

If this is true, one could get a smartphone with a 32-bit ESS Sabre DAC ES9018K2M (same as did on the LG V10) with 3x TI OPA1612 for under 200 $.

I was thinking the same, it can be found for some 180$.
These are specs on gsmarena......http://m.gsmarena.com/lenovo_vibe_x3_c78-7756.php

I would not bother for now. Given the reviews, i am not that impressed. There are better options out there and I share rainmaker91s opinion. I appriciate it when companies try something new, but for now I would wait till the modular phone has proven itself. You may want to take a look at the lg v10 or other phones discussed at this thread too.

True that, but would like to try it for myself to see how this new technology actually fares in my perspective. But kudos to LG's R&D department for their reasonable attempt to attract audio fans.
