Look at the Alessandro MS-1i, directly from their website.  It's $110 including shipping worldwide.  I like mine almost as much as my HD 600!

Hope you are right, i have a ms1 in thr way.

OP what is your source? HD668 arent hard to drive, ive use them right out of my PC, i game with them on ;)

No such thing as best anything at whatever price range but I'll echo the MS-1i recommendation. Awesome cans that don't get enough love around these parts imo.

My favorite is the K240 Studio for under $100, but they're semi-open but sound more like a closed headphone. The soundstage is actually worse than my DJ100 and that's closed.
They're also not easy to drive, so you may want to skip them. You can listen to them with a larger mp3 player like the Ipod Touch without an amp, but you need to max the volume.

My suggestion is to save up another $70 and get the HD-598. You can find them often for $170 if you're patient. Electronics Expo and JR often has them for around this price. JR only if you call and ask.
I got mine for $170 from them. They definitely won't have the bass of the M50, but the sound is more balanced.

So far I haven't found another good open headphone for under $300 that I liked more. Most everything else that's open needs a good amp it seems.

With the HD-598 being so much better than my HD-555, it's hard to suggest the HD-555 anymore. Maybe look into the HD-558 as a cheap alternative to the HD-598.

I can't suggest the SR-80 only because for being open I don't feel as if the soundstage is anything all that impressive. Not good enough to upgrade from the M50. I've tried two types of pads.
Some may like them, but it's one headphone that sounds pretty good but it's still hard to suggest. Wish they had more Grado clones that were circumaural!

I'm actually in the same situation right now. I'm looking for a pair of cans that complement on M50. I'm thinking of getting the 555/595 or the MS1's right now. My girlfriend would kill me if I spent $200 on a pair of 598s :(

i have to ask, why didnt you listed the AD700? if the could the AD500 be recommended over the 700? I've read good stuff about the AD500 but is kind rare to  find reviews about it

I wasn't aware of this, how much power do they need, and how much do they improve? I'm loving my k240s unamped now!

I'd recommend the k240s, SR80/125, or MS-1i.
