Hey guys,
Looking for a open-back headphones that demonstrates the the words "surround" and "stage" in sound terms.

I've got the Shure SRH840 - Wonderfull headphones for loseless tracks, but not for gaming - they're not accurate enough.

I thought about the Audio-Technica ATH-AD900 (229$ @ Amazon) is it the best open-back headphone I can get without amp?

Thanks!

Do you have a receiver or would you be willing to get one for $20-$50 or so?

If you are, see if you can find a used Sennheiser HD-600 for around $200. It's the best, least expensive open headphone out there. The ATs are OK, but I've never felt a connection to them. The HD-600 was a lot more musical and involving to me. They also scale nicely when you upgrade your equipment.

I think I can find a NEW HD600 for 299$..
I have a basic old reciever: Yamaha RXV557
or I can get a old stereo amp from my uncle: Technics SU-A600..

Is that option sounds better than the AD900's ?

How's the HD600 compared to the Beyerdynamic 990 250?

Thanks!

The DT 990 certainly are comparable to the HD600 as it also offers a musically involving listening experience.  There are a few key differences here, the DT 990 is a fair bit brighter than the HD600 along a stronger bass response as well.

mmm okey,
and how they both sound without amp?
if I'll connect them directly to my pc (Realtek ALC889 onboard soundcard), can I enjoy them in that condition?

I would avoid using both of them with onboard.  The dt990 below 250 ohm aren't that great if you ask me, and both headphones wouldn't be happy with onboard.  If your budget is 300, get at least a uDac and then get the headphones used.  Will be in your budget if you shop carefully and sound worlds better than with onboard

Would bet on the Pro 2900 based on my Pro 900 experience. Pro 900 is a nice step upwards from the HD 650 particularly regarding soundstaging. HD 650 is not bad at all though for movies it´s just that the 900 is so insanely good in this area :)

You have the answer there...
If you want neutral sound, if you want lots of bass and treble take the dt990 they are nice also, but you need an amp also!
