First off id just like to say that i own a pair off Beyerdynamic DT660 which i thought was the mutz nutz, untill i heard my sons new JVC HA-RX700 cans. So iam thinking of getting me a new pair. These are what i thought off.
 
 
JVC HA-RX700
Creative Aurvana live
Denon AH D1100
 
Or any thing else thats closed and under £100.
 
I will be using them mainly for Movies, but i do accasionally game and listern to Rock and classical music.
 
I will be plugging them into my Creative Titanium HD sound card.

I am looking to get a pair myself and looking at these:
 
Best price I can find:
Creative Aurvana Live - £52
Shure SHR440 - £65
Denon DN-HP700 - £90
Audio Technica ATH M50 - £128

Sennheiser HD 25 - 1 II - £146

Denon AHD2000 - £200

 

I am probably going to get the Shure 440 from reading the reviews and the price.  But if you like the JVC HA-RX700, you should look to get it as it is only £35 from Amazon.

For 100$ my best recommendation is Sennheiser HD 555, I had many sub-100 headphones those are the only ones I still own.
I was surprised by Sennheiser HD 202 they are about 33$ and they are preety much perfect for portable gear.
 
I used 555 without an amp straight from Soundblaster Live 5.1 and they were miraculus at that time.  So if You got 100$ to spend dont hasatate and get one Yourself.

Also note that OP's budget is in pounds, not dollars.

Sennheiser HD 25-1 II would be nice but they are like 120-130 GBP, militarry could use them thanks to rock-solid construction.
 
Decent sub-100 pounds ones:
 

1. AKG K181DJ
2. Sennheiser HD 280 PRO
3. Sennheiser HD 212 PRO

 
Any how cross creative off Your list.
 
HD 202 for 25 pounds would probably kill all headphones on Your list, they got same construction as 212 PRO i like it personally, had both 212 and 202 and i enjoyed them a lot.

Thanks for your replys. And yes i would like closed cup, not sure of the extent of leakage with semi open, if there not to bad ill consider them aswell. If thats the case maybe the the ???HA-RX900s???

Why not the creative? 
 
I'm selling my HD555's as I find them too laid back for rock.  I'm looking at either the CAL! or

[*] AKG K581DJ (I think the AKG K181DJ is over £100).

[*] I've only read good things about the CAL! and I have listen to the Denon AH D1001 (same driver) in Best Buy and far preferred the sound the the Senns. 

[*] Was also looking at the Superlux HD681 but read they are rather bright and need modding.

Depends what kind of sound You like when it comes to manufacturer. Lets not make our friend who started the thread even more confused.
 
Take our recommendations and go to store where You can lisen to them on Your own
 
Alternatively, its weird You arnt satisfied with Your DT660 have You considered buying a headphone amp?
I find it hard to belive that Your sons JVC outperformed them, and if they did try them with diffrent sources.

Does seem a little odd that; what so impressed you about the JVCs? Bass quantity perhaps? Have you given plenty of time to both going back to the Beyers after a good spell with the JVC and vice versa? Sometimes after a while a "Wow" can turn into a "Meh" (I think those are the technical terms

).

Frankly, I never heard CAL! but come on creative vs akg or sennheiser? It's like a shootout where one cowboy takes the lasso and the other gets the revolver
 
I saw a few decent creative products but those were pc speakers (cambride audio licensed!), sound cards and graphic accelerators (Voodoo's heh can anyone remember them?), generally Creative is gaming oriented company...
 
 
About our friend in need of help here, I really think You need amp instead of new headphones, on PC line out those JVC's could've sound better actually. Headphone amp would kick Your dt 660 into another realm of quality. They are easy to drive so for 100 gbp You can get awsome amp for them.
 
Remember its the system (headphones, amp and the source) that makes the quality, not headphones alone.

They do pretty well in most musical genres.
