Not sure how many people have been using the S5 daily as most seem to get for just to try it out, but my 3.5mm is starting to give way after 3 months of daily use (about 4 hours a day).

Horses for courses innit.

I find the s5 improves with an amp attached. I agree that the sound gets a bit grainy and lacks detail at higher volumes but I either attach an nx1 or a xd-10 to it. I don't think it likes ambient/ drone or classical music but I'm listening to the pink Floyd early years box with it and that sounds pretty great. Defo not as congested as a sansa.

The xDuoo x2 sq for me is defo slightly better, in fact I prefer it to the xDuoo x3. Ymmv as ever.

I guess that means the Benjie S5 sounds better than the xDuoo x2 and x3. Nice! :)

that's not quite what I am saying. S5 on its own to my ears defo sounds a tad inferior, strapping an NX1 to it seems to improve it somewhat. not sure I would argue it sounds better than X2 or X3 ... but then again my mood changes on a daily basis ;-)

Oh, you don't think the Benjie S5 sounds better than the x2? I guess, only some people do. Then again one person was saying they liked the sound better on the x2 than the x3.

I just wanted to confirm that I was able to upgrade the firmware of my Benjie S5 to the AGPTEK M20 firmware with the instructions in this post:
http://www.head-fi.org/t/805115/benjie-s5-offical-thread/870#post_13065702

Some quick observations about the changes:
-The "Welcome" text when starting the player turned into AGPTEK logo
-Player has the clock screensaver now
-It has playlist support now
-Ability to record FM radio appeared
-The way how the back button works changed a bit I think. It feels more user friendly now, it keeps looping over the settings you've gone through.

There could be other changes too.. I didn't use the stock firmware for long.

After listening to my Benjie S5, I just got. It excels on rap/hip hop, instrumental/acoustic songs, and electronic music. This is excellent to me because this is what I want to listen to most. With all the free rap mixtapes out of there, it's going to be great.

When I listened to rap/hip-hop on my Sansa Clip+, before rock boxing and also after, I couldn't even hear what rappers were saying. It's amazing that the Benjie S5 sounds so clean that I can understand every word in every song, whether it's electronic or rap/hip-hop.

For $30.00 Canadian on Gearbest with the included Benjie ear buds, it's an excellent deal.

I look forward to hearing the other approx. twenty ear buds I bought for this player because of this forum... and I look forward to comparing it to my Walnut v2 when it arrives.

PS: I find it sometimes harsh on Jazz setting without foams on the ear buds (it didn't come with any).

I got the S5 and the Walnut. SQ on Walnut is on another level compared to the S5 however recently in the Walnut thread some people have experienced QC issues which suck.

Both battery life hits 12hrs, and the Benjie will die after that but Walnut will keep going for maybe 12 more hours? Havent really tested but i dare say 20hrs battery time the minimum.

The good thing abt S5 is that it has shuffle playback feature, though u cant jump to the now playing song on ur playlist which makes finding songs difficult. But it has a sleepmode, FM (tho in my country, the receiver doesnt work well), mic function if u need. And the best thing is it has a screen! The good thing of the S5 is the bad for Walnut as no screen = not much function. The songs dont shuffle and the player plays in a sequence i believe based on the time the file is created.

Last thing i prefer the Walnut over the S5 is that the volume control for S5 is up / down level, where its usually a little too loud for me or a little too soft (just a level adjustment). The Walnut has a knob control but bad thing i experienced with mine is that at low volumes, the right side seem to be softer tho turning up everything would be good.

I think (unsure but quite confident) the Walnut drives high impedence earphones better.

At ard 25USD price for both, i think it depends on ur preference whether which one suit u better.

Thanks. Ya, i saw on the latest pages of the thread. I have on-ear phones that i think are 32ohms but the comin kinera is 12 or maybe 22ohms (it varies on diff listings). I would love to have the walnut but when i search ali, there's only one listed and it's not from the recommended store! And yes, the recent qc issues. I think it will be between benjie x1 and s5 for me.

Shame that when i've been browsing ali earlier and saw the walnut, i didn't even looked 2x and read the product description and reviews!

 Great to hear it and welcome to the Benjie family!

20 earbuds you say? I have only a modest collection of 4 so far  and they all go well with S5.

I know... I bought too many, :( But people's opinions on this forum seem so tantalizing, they write like their ears are drooling over their new ear buds.

@LaughMoreDaily oh dear. Do inform us your impressions of the walnut. Because I'm now choosing among Benjie s5, kns and walnut v2.

What is the KNS Music Player? I've never heard of it. If I were you, I would buy a Walnut v2, right now. It is the rarest of music players and can be upgraded, and it looks like it'll be sold out soon, possibly for good. Benjie S5 can be bought everywhere. If you change your mind on the Walnut v2, you can always sell it.
